Food and Flavour: 4/5<br/ Ambience: 4/5<br/ Service: 3.5/5<br/ Seating: 3.5/5<br/ Value for Money: 3/5<br/ <br/ Valet Parking available<br/ Open 12 11<br/ South and North Indian cuisines<br/ Private Dining area available<br/ <br/ The front door promoted a Chettinad/South Indian theme to the restaurant with a more urbanised uplift to the interiors, to give you a fine dine feel. <br/ <br/ Probably the first ones to arrive at 13:40; the two of us were greeted by the staff as we chose our table next to the bar counter. <br/ <br/ Upon placing the order for soup and starters, we were served a welcome drink irrespective of your order), watermelon juice and fryums. <br/ <br/ Order: <br/ <br/ Kozhi Rasam ₹125) Soothing, tangy rasam with few shreds of chicken. Indicative of use of chicken stock, tasted great. <br/ <br/ Kola Urundai ₹225) 4 mid sized mutton balls, dry and grainy. Not the best I've had. <br/ <br/ Chicken Uppukari ₹195) Dry, very mildly flavoured chicken chunks with red peppers, whole garlic cloves and shallots. Absolute cracker of a dish, but for the quantity. Small. Must try. <br/ <br/ Lucknow Mutton Biriyani ₹240) With intense Indian spices flavours, the masala laden meat was a pleasure to mix and eat the rice with. Served in a clay pot, the portion size was large. <br/ <br/ Lucknow Chicken Biriyani ₹220) The same taste as the mutton variant, a bit mild on flavours, masala and drier. <br/ <br/ The Raitha and Salna were good. May have been better if they were served hot. <br/ <br/ Prawn Fry ₹195) A hint of saltiness but accompanied with great taste. Prawns were fresh and fried well. Quality of sliced onions were questionable! <br/ <br/ Biriyani took about 20 mins to be served. Otherwise service was prompt, quick. <br/ <br/ While the portion for Biriyani were quite large, the starters were really small. Probably the sides/gravies would be better in proportion. <br/ <br/ The staff got a bit involved with the news on TV at times; doesn't promote professionalism even if there's very guests/tables occupied. And the TV volume was high! <br/ Their liquor licenses were apparently revoked during the recent ruling. They're most likely to be back in business in a few months. Not many a time you see alcohol served paired with South Indian cuisine. A calm place for a lunch date/formal lunch or just to enjoy the good food. Seating and air conditioning were adequate.<br/ Total Bill: ₹1416/ including GST of ₹216 at 18%.
Courtesy my friend, I travelled all the way to Alwarpet on a sunny Sunday afternoon for a meal at Masala Pattinam. The experience was not disappointing but was not impressive either. <br/ <br/ The place is easy to locate. If you are travelling by car, finding a place to park may be a problem. The restaurant was surprisingly free during that time and we could choose a table of our choice. Then came the big problem of finding someone who could service the table. After some calling and requests, we finally found someone who could serve us. The service was better after it started. <br/ <br/ The menu for the afternoon seemed like limited. We ordered Paneer Tikka and Vegetable Seekh Kebab for the starters and some mocktails. I am not a great fan of Paneers and thus will reserve my comments only for the Seekh Kebab, which was very good. For the main course we had Subzi Mahak (Vegetables in sweet cashew gravy) and found it to be very good. This is a very good alternative for Malai Kofta in case you want to avoid spicy gravy items. With the Subzi Mahak we shared amongst ourselves Stuffed Kulcha, Garlic Naan and Plain Kulcha. Based on my friend's recommendation we also have Veg Biryani, which in my opinion was average.<br/ <br/ The quality of food was very good. The restaurant perhaps needs to improve on the service part. Overall good and worth future visits. And of course, with Rs.1500 for 3, it was certainly value for money.
