The Family Fishery - Mundelein

The gumbo was fantastic. I ordered the broiled walleye, but I'm not sure that's what I got. It didn't taste like walleye and had stripes, which walleye doesn't have—those are characteristic of perch. That said, it was still decent. I will definitely return for the gumbo!

My wife and I decided to go out for a date and drove 30 minutes to this restaurant, only to find the building dark and a handmade cardboard sign on the door. It simply said, "CLOSED. I’m not feeling well and don’t have any help. Sorry." I truly sympathize with the struggles of this business; it's a clear reflection of the challenges small business owners are facing right now. When they do reopen, I encourage everyone to give them a chance and pay them a visit.

My sister and I visited this restaurant on a Friday night, and while it was quite busy, the line moved swiftly. The young woman who took our order was very welcoming. We enjoyed jumbo shrimp and seasoned French fries, and the food was simply delightful. I’m looking forward to coming back to try the cheesecake!

I went to this restaurant specifically for the fresh seafood, and I can say it was definitely worth the price! I ordered the shrimp, and they were enormous! However, I noticed when I got home that I had overpaid by about $4 because they calculated my order as 1 1/2 pounds instead of what I intended. I was a bit disappointed, but I'll definitely return. Next time, I might just order whole pounds to avoid any confusion with the math!

This is an excellent spot for fresh fish and shellfish. They also offer chicken tenders and fries for those who aren't fans of seafood, but I highly recommend the catfish basket to everyone. It's a lovely place to enjoy some crab legs, and my wife absolutely loved the mussels in garlic butter. Plus, the tartar sauce is fantastic!
