Contribuiți la feedbackDelicious authentic catsu, generous portions and very reasonable prices! the rosu katsu is the best I had in the bay area and the katsu sauce is for dying. they close at 9 o'clock.
I was excited to find out there was a restaurant specialized in katsu near my new apartment, so I went with high hopes. The restaurant looks neat and modern, with a black wall full of icons and words related to the katsu world. I was excited and ordered a katsudon and a katsucurry. The food was below our expectations of what a place specializing in katsu would serve. If this was an average Japanese restaurant with lower prices, I'd find it suitable. The issue with my katsudon was too many onions and too little egg, and super hard katsu. The meat was thick, which is great, but only if it's been smothered, but it hadnt, it was just really hard to bite it off. The curry also had katsu, cut a bit thinner, but still too hard (the meat just wasnt worked well). Additionnaly, the curry sauce didnt taste very special or different from a regular packed curry. In conclusion, while the place looks hip and there is a good option of menu items, the katsu, the protagonist, wasnt good. It was edible, but not enjoyable.
I had the hirekatsu curry. The curry was watery and not a lot of curry flavour. I love eating katsu curry, but this was not a memorable one.
The interior is cute, the katsu is solid, the staff friendly, and the price reasonable. It isn't my favorite katsu ever, which is why I give 3 stars. If I got this from anywhere other than a katsu specialty shop I would be impressed, but to be honest, I expected more from a restaurant of this nature. I certainly wasn't disappointed, I just left with a sense that what I just experienced was.... average. So three stars for forgettable katsu. You served us well in caloric content and supported good conversation among friends, but never took center stage.
They give you A LOT of food for the price, which is a good value for money. It's a small place, but there wasn't a wait when I went there for dinner on a Friday night. I've been looking for a restaurant that serves japanese curry and I was so excited to see it on their menu. I ordered the pork katsu with cheese and curry. When my food came, I was disappointed with the fact that there wasn't that much flavor. The curry tasted diluted and the pork itself didn't have that much flavor either. I might come back here to try their other dishes though. Maybe it was just a bad day.
