The presentation is very cynical, with the cold tajine being brought out and the lid whisked away. Only people who can't cook for themselves would consider this food delicious. The dolmades were hot and sloppy, almost molten, indicating they were likely microwaved before being served quickly. The previous location in Vic Park seemed better before closing down, but this new one is a definite no-go for me.
First of all this restaurant is now at 550 Beaufort Street NOT at 644 Beaufort Street as stated on their website. They haven’t even bothered to update their website and didn’t even bother to tell us when we made a booking with them. They clearly haven’t been at 644 Beaufort for some time. There’s nothing wrong with the food at this restaurant but I dined here last Saturday and there is absolutely no social distancing possible as the tables are close together and we were packed in like flies. Added to that, there was belly dancing at 7.30 where the dancers were very close to the tables (inches away) and they were encouraging the customers to join in. The girls at the table next to ours joined in enthusiastically adding to the squash of bodies. At this time, this is dangerous. There is absolutely no consideration given to social distancing so they’re breaking the law and I’m going to take this further with the authorities. This is no time to be risking transmission as we’re at a critical time with the outbreak in Victoria and NSW. Don’t risk dining here if you love your family and friends. The restaurant clearly don’t care as they’re out to make a quick buck while they can.
The food is amazing! We thoroughly enjoyed all the dishes we had on the night. Dolmades, cauliflower and prawns were a highlight. Great value; we will be back!!
4 here for Dinner, Nice and simple decor. Service was friendly and attentive, once we ordered and the food was brought to our table, the service dropped and we had to keep asking for water to be brought to out table, Ok minor Quibble but still! The food was very good, we had the mixed grill, lamb cutlets, hot tapas and lamb afrah all were very good and good value, All in all a very good night, thank you Mashawi
This was a family group of 7 including grandparents teens. Good breadth of menu choice. Reasonable prices. Food is fabulous . Mashawi Grill was enjoyed by 2 adults. Mashawi Lamb cutlets was selected by hungry teenage lads. All reported great taste plentiful. Vegetarian dishes chosen were Black Fez tangine and Lentil Rice tangine. both can be highly recommended. If you want alcohol, it is byo and if you only realise that after arrival there is a bottle shop just up the road
