Contribuiți la feedbackWe loved everything about this restaurant. The food was great, the staff might not have been more friendly or helpful, and the atmosphere was very comfortable, unpredictable and welcoming. it was the best restaurant experience I had by far at Mt Buller.
We decided to dine at Chamois based on its No. 1 ranking on TripAdvisor, and we were not disappointed. Despite the Covid situation, the restaurant was very diligent in ensuring safety measures were in place, including monitoring capacity, taking temperatures upon arrival (something we didn't see at other establishments in Buller that weekend), and collecting contact information. They even rearranged our seating to maintain social distancing. The atmosphere was cozy, with a touch of old-world charm that felt more nostalgic than outdated. The staff was warm and welcoming, and the food was excellent. We enjoyed two courses that were well-presented and delicious, all at a reasonable price. We would highly recommend a visit to Chamois, located about a 10-minute walk from the village square at the Enzian Hotel on Chamois Street. Be sure to make a reservation, as it is popular among hotel guests, ski instructors, and other visitors alike!
We began with cocktails and drinks, followed by the amazing sea snails for appetizers. The steak for the main course was cooked to perfection. The staff was very friendly.
The food and wine was delicious. Interesting menu and well cooked. A few more veggies would have been nice. Some areas of the (fairly small) restaurant are more attractive than others. We went twice during the week the second time the service was pretty...slow. The meals are quite expensive but so are most places on the snow and this was definitely the best meal and nicest ambience.
I stayed above the Enzian Hotel, so read in house that the chef came from a well established Melbourne kitchen. When traveling around the village I asked locals which was the best place to eat and they directed me to Chamois, in particular their KFC... which I now understand stands for Korean Fried Cauliflower not chicken! We ate their on our last 2 nights and enjoyed the Duck, Steak, and Spatchcock, as well as the KFC. All meals were delicious and the wine list was also reasonable, particular if you only want 1 glass. Service was good. We did not have room for dessert unfortunately as the home made gelatos and ice creams looked amazing.
