Contribuiți la feedbackHave been sitting with family last month because my Gf's Oncle offered us this restaurant. All quite professional, liked the service, the place, the decoration and the cellar/bodega, where you can choose your own wine beforehand. Food was quality and overall everything was very delicious and... well combined. I recommend
We absolutely loved everything about this restaurant. Unusually the restaurant partly overlooks a decorated old sports court of some sort, not sure what sport, maybe some sort of skittles. It's quirky decoration with even upside down tables on the ceiling has been well thought through...and make for an informal unusual ambience. We were directed to a very well stocked wine cellar, we chose an excellent Pouilly Fume €23) and a Fleurie €23). We opted for the 3 course menu at €30 with a choice of 4 entrees 4 Plat, 3 desserts or cheese. A couple of supplements for more expensive dishes. Our bill came to €177.50 for 4 including 2 bottles of wine and a glass of Jurancon. Remember the limited opening hours Thursday dinner, Friday and Saturday lunch and dinner and Sunday lunch. Great value eating experience.
We went for our daughter 's anniversary in late September. The restaurant is set in a medieval village with a chateau and fortified church. You have to park and walk the last 50m down a cobbled traffic free lane. The restaurant is divided into two parts... a bistro style and a gourmand style. The décor is quirky but fun. The staff are attentive and the service is excellent. That day 's menu(s) is on a chalk board brought to the table and explained in detail by the waitress. They are fixed price 6 or 8 tasting courses depending on which side of the restaurant you are sitting. There are a couple of variations but otherwise what you see is what you get . It is meat orientated, with no options so not a place for vegetarians just what you expect in France profonde! Whilst you peruse the menu, you are served an amuse bouche of farmhouse pate in a large basin with a knife stuck in the top together with cornichons and homemade bread. The menu was exceptional and beautifully presented too detailed to explain here, but if you love food and nose to tail eating, you 'll love it. The cheese board which was optional had 16 local cheeses including vache, brebis chevre variants. Another nice touch is that you go to the cellar to choose your own wine(s) from about 140 bins with tasting notes to help you (in French only). A great evening with excellent food in a welcoming atmosphere what more can you want!
Far from being closed the Cap E Tot is up and running and serving fantastic food. It's a unique experience dining here. There are lots of objets and you can watch the meals being prepared. The main room includes a pitch for playing the Basque...game Quilles de Neuf, a very ancient and unique bowls like game. Don't worry though. They're unlikely to be playing while you're eating the absolutely delicious food. First you go down to the cave and select your wine from the many bottles displayed there (all priced) and then you start on the Menu Degustation (38 euros): six courses with wonderful flavours and tastes cappucino de potiron, ravioles de boeuf pot au feu, filet de merluchon poele et artichauts, veau de lait roti, clafoutis amande avec coulis et sorbet huile d'olive et cremeaux releve au whisky avec granite de figues. You don't feel full, you just feel happy. It's great value and the service is friendly and tremendously efficient. It was very busy when we were there on a Thursday evening. Let's hope it stays so.
Not only was the meal excellent and ambiance inviting and convivial but I got to watch a match of quilles after dinner a local occitan version of bowling!! Its nice that they have two separate venues one gastronomic fancy and the...other more informal casual. Reserve early and make sure you either are with someone who knows the area or that you have a good GPS!! Especially at night! But well worth the trip if youre in the Souther part of the Aquitaine region near Pau!
