(Previously sticky carpet underfoot, poor service, dreadful food which was practically inedible, and generally run-down. I was greeted personally by the owner's daughter Michelle from Adelaide who took care to make sure I negotiated the rather rough path into the pub O.K., as I use a wheelie walker. Michelle was our waitress as well and made sure to ask everyone's names, and could not have been more helpful, asking if we needed tea/coffee/water/anything and getting doggie bags for those whose meals were too big. She happily turned up the heating for me as it was a bitterly cold day. The menu is now very attractive, not just burgers and same old pub food. The new chef, Jo, is creative and efficient. All six of us at my table ordered the special of the day, roast pork, and it came quickly and piping hot and was tender, with a good selection of vegetables as well. For $18 it was good value. Michelle was the consummate professional hostess and I cannot praise her more highly. I would not hesitate to go at lunchtime again, it's only a 10 minute drive from Mt. Gambier and worth the trip.
Really enjoyed our meal. Amy the cook really did her best to please us. Very successfully. We will be back !
Located in a remote area, this pub is situated halfway between the coast and the mountains. While the selection of tap beers is not extensive, it still offers a traditional country pub experience.
The staff at this restaurant went above and beyond for us. They were accommodating of our four-legged companion, showing us to the outside garden and taking our food and drink orders. When we requested lunch for our pet, they were more than happy to help. The food was delicious and plentiful. We will definitely be coming back and recommending this place to others. Thank you for a wonderful lunch experience.
The Bellum is a great place for a quality meal and the owners and staff are very friendly, just what you would like to see in a country pub, country hospitality . And the beer is fresh and cold.
