We stopped in the village of Montsegur after the ascent to the castle. We wandered around the charming streets and discovered this picturesque little café. We had a coffee and a hot chocolate. The owner was friendly and chatting. There was a beautiful old English sheepdog in the corner. A great find.
This place offered the evening meal part of our Demi Pension Deal in our Cathar Way Walk. It is in an old building that has been very tastefully renovated. Agnes, the owner/Koch(? /waitress is a real character, very efficient and good company. The food and service are excellent... a loan to all those affected. So if you are in the region, eat here you are not disappointed strongly recommended.
Agnes is a wonderful and charming host. The outdoor tables are best if weather permits. Menu is limited—just take the special for the day for lunch and book dinner if you want it (fixed menu, price includes good house wine). Did not have a single...bad meal here in three days.
I was here with friends on a walking trip and we dined gites style with everyone sitting together and eating what is being made that night. The cooking was simple and superb. When I am in France I want French food and with the Bitropot...you get the recipe of the chef's grandmother. I had dinner here twice and both times the food was delicious, the host pleasant and gracious and the atmosphere charming.
