Mache! - Montréal

There was only one person visiting the whole restaurant in the middle of a street festival, but she never stopped smiling. She did the best she could, but obviously the service was not the best. Where were the owners? Food

After a long day of 5 hours and 20,000 steps since breakfast, we decided to have a big dinner at Mache. It was the perfect place to try Poutine, and we were not disappointed. We ordered the pulled pig, caramelized onions, and house gravy Poutine and it was heavenly. The staff was very friendly and attentive.

Shepherd cake was great. pork n sweet potato. hubby had poutine n corned-beef sandwich w coleslaw. will return.

This chill and casual cafe has good food, and friendly staff. Nothing fancy, but the prices are very reasonable, including the beer. The wife and I both ordered the $11 La Grand Pile : A sandwich with house roasted corned beef, swiss cheese, caramelized onions, pickles,...house coleslaw, dijonnaise...fricking flavorful, meaty, and delicious! The house salad was a perfect sidekick. Unfortunately I didn 't get a chance to try their other tempting greasy editable offerings...Mâche! is great for casual, affordable, and tasty meal.

I was torn between rating this average or very good but the poor waitressing (partially a language issue as we speak English and she was obviously a dominant French speaker) and one average meal kept it down. Ah, a Friday night on St. Denis Street....A festival up and down the street and a place that allowed our dog to be with us on their terrasse while we ate. That said, my expectations were a bit higher than the food we got. I think part of it was mis-ordering, I think we mis-understood some of the items on the menu (which a good waitress may have helped but…we didn’t have a good waitress). I had the sausage sandwich which was two thin pieces of sausages in a roll with a spicy mayo and tasty cole slaw. Not awful but…just wanted more. cole slaw, more sausage… Despite my meal, the rest of family really enjoyed their meals. My wife had the deluxe sandwich which was very tasty. The kids really enjoyed the mac n cheese and grilled cheese they ordered. The mac n cheese was very well done – nice and gooey without over doing the cheese or having it feel watery and a nice crunch on top. I probably ordered wrong here for what I was hoping for so I’d go back to try again but, this meal was just not what I was hoping for – while the family did enjoy their choices.
