La Grande Terrasse - Montréal

I do not recommend this restaurant. We experienced extremely disrespectful service during our visit. I had intended to leave a reasonable tip, but the waiter cancelled my order and insisted on a minimum 15% tip, essentially forcing me to pay it. This felt like they were taking money right out of my pocket. I was both shocked and bewildered. The staff's behavior was disappointing, and the food was mediocre and overpriced for what you receive.

Dear owners, Request you to have better training for your server from Aug 2nd evening for 3 adults at left wing patio time 9.45pm server lady(name unknown, since she never bothered telling). We waited forever for drinks, food and finally bill. I did not feel like bothering to ask about fresh fries (they were cold by the time they got to table and it's not winters). Despite of above adjustment we made as a customer she stared at me paying and when I decided to skip tip she harassed me to pay tip and told it is law in Montreal. Though I paid to avoid being further harassed she spoke about us before we left to her colleagues. I would appreciate copy of law she mentioned to ensure I can be a better customer. We ordered a coke, Heineken, Coors light, fish and chips, pizza veg and chicken poutine (details for you to find right person as she grabbed the bill back from me). FYI we have visited your restaurant before and tipped happily since the service was great.

My wife and I wanted a simple cocktail and thought we would try some poutine which Montreal is famous for. After being seated outside as we asked, the service was mediocre to say the most. No overly friendly staff. Our drinks were simple but took a little longer to come than expected. When we decided to order the poutine, the waiter took our order politely and left. When the poutine arrived we were underwhelmed. We have only had poutine once in our 60 years. If the cold fries are supposed to have a cool temperature gravy that tasted like Swiss chalet sauce along with cheese curds on top with no gravy on them then I guess they nailed it. Unfortunately I can not recommend this restaurant to anyone going to Montreal. Too many other wonderful choices. I wish I would have read the reviews before we went. Not like us to do that.

I had a really disappointing experience with the service at this restaurant. We waited in line for 15 minutes, requested a table for four (with two seniors, my partner, and myself), and were seated in the outdoor area. The table was extremely dirty with mayonnaise still on it. After I cleaned it off, we were told just 10 minutes later that we needed to switch to another seating area. They moved us to the main terrace, where we waited another 15 minutes, but the staff was too busy and ignored us. I had to go inside to request that someone take our order, but when I returned, a waiter informed us that the kitchen was closed and he couldn’t help us. It would have been much more considerate if they had told us from the start that they were closing for the day; we would have completely understood. There was no need to waste our time like that. After reading other reviews, I’m actually relieved that we didn’t get to order any food.

The $12 for a 20-ounce draft blonde beer might seem pricey, but it was rich and flavorful. The $24 club sandwich was definitely on the expensive side for what you receive, but it was quite tasty—even though they didn't ask whether I wanted it lean, medium, or fatty. What really turned me off about this place was when my friend requested the check. Instead of bringing the check, they brought him another beer and then made him feel guilty for their mistake. In the end, my friend ended up taking the beer. When they finally brought the check, we still had full drinks in front of us. We paid promptly, but we lingered for another 20 or 30 minutes, and the staff kept staring at us as if to say, "You’ve paid, now get out of those seats."
