Decor is Texan as the owner is from Houston (wonder what took him to Montreal but he wasn't around for us to ask) and the food has its roots there, although they said that Texas beers aren't easily accessible for them. Cost seemed to be a little high but the meals we had (burrito for my hustband and a fish taco for me which they adjusted for my tastes) were very good.
We were seated at a table and wanted to buy a small meal and some drinks.Instead we were yelled at by a staff member who lectured us about his liquor licence because he thought that we weren't going to eat enough food!It was completely bizarre, this guy was so loud that he interrupted the quarter full "restaurant" of diners/drinkers, whilst he had his meltdown. He then wandered off in a huff to serve other customers.Another staff member then approached us and asked if we have made a decision yet? And questioned if we could speak French? even though we had been speaking in English the whole time...and so was he.The two staff members seemed to be satisfied with having not many customers in the restaurant and weren't too fussed about hospitality. So we kindly advised we'd go somewhere else. This was the most pretentious place in Montreal that we visited, don't go.
I visited this restaurant as I've heard so much about it and it was featured in You Gotta Here.I left utterly disappointed. We ordered the fried chicken, fish tacos, pulled pork sandwich, and steak burrito. Fried chicken was missing a sauce, was crispy and still moist but not the best I've had, pulled pork was just standard, and the steak burrito was loaded with fries (inside). Everything tasted just dry. The price is decent. We were a group of 5 and paid 20$ each (before tips). Overall, I think the hype was an overkill for this restaurant and there are now better out there.
I had some friends over at my house for drinks and one of them says "you are so lucky, the best Tex-mex restaurant is just around the corner!". Well, I tried the next day. I was not disappointed. Tried the bourbon lemonade which is a speciality and delicious. Shared the shrimp taco special (tangy and spicy!) and the fried chicken tacos (a little dry but very tasty). We spent 50$ which was reasonable. The service was was very nice and fast. I will have to go back to try a few more plates recommended by my friendly restaurant neighbor! We went on a rainy day and did not wait to be seated but I was told that the waiting time car be long.
