Being from Texas, we sort of scoffed at tacos while out of the country but the shrimp tacos we're fully legit.Crescent Street is a happening lively area in the Mount Royal area of town and Brutopia may be the only spot that is an actual brewery. The service is spot on and the crowd as the night wore on rolled in and a small band took the stage to really get things going .This is a cool spot if you are in this area of Montreal. Don't miss it!!!
Dropped in here for a pre-dinner drink and snack; they have a good selection of house beers which are a great price. Unfortunately, the nachos were average at best, holding back a better rating. The crowd is definitely on the younger side and the place has a good vibe. Fun to note that they have three different patios - two in front and one in the back, so plenty of open air for a nice evening out.
We showed up at Brutopia for the music - a jazz organ jam. It was awesome and I highly recommend going to see the Certified Organic Quartet. My boyfriend enjoyed the IPA and Honey Ale and I had a few cocktails. The margarita was heavy on the salt and the tequila. The Harvey Wallbanger was great. We shared chicken nachos and they were tasty, but not traditional at all. Not sure if it was Brutopia's version or how Montreal does Nachos. They were good, but it seemed more like an italian dish on tortilla chips, rather than a mexican dish. If we were locals I'm sure this show is one we'd frequent!
Nothing bad to say about this place, food is great and the drinks are good to. The few times that we were there, we got either good or poor service.
I’m addicted to craft brewed India Pale Ales, better known as IPAs. So when I arrive in a new city, I want to know where I might find craft beer. And if it is brewed on the premises, all the better. Brutopia is just such a place. The upstairs brew pub features about eight craft brews, including an IPA with a modest IBU by west coast standards (58), but quite drinkable, and only $5.50 for a sleeve before 8 pm (it’s a dollar more after 8 pm). They offer a menu of tapas and sandwiches – I opted for a Cubano sandwich, in this case roast pork with mayonnaise, lettuce, and guacamole in a bun. Perfect. There is a lower level at sidewalk level, the Brutopia Bistro, that I’m guessing has an expanded menu but I didn’t have time to look closer.
