BarBounya - Montréal

We went here for a second brunch (first brunch was just a bagel with smoked salmon and coffee....).We were celebrating an anniversary in Montreal, and in thematic concert, we had spent an anniversary in Istanbul, so we wanted a little bit of connection between the two.This really isn't a Turkish restaurant, but it's really delicious. Brunch consists of some fabulous bread, butter and honey (yum) jams and preserves, nuts, a middle eastern inspired salad, but the centrepiece was a fabulous lamb sausage with poached egg dish that was sublime. It's on Laurier, which is one of the more interesting gastronomic streets of Montreal, so this place is a definite not miss.Oh -- what is really Turkish -- the coffee. Yes, the coffee......

There is a fixed menu with a broad range of options. Everything ordered comes promptly and hot. Sitting at a snaking counter you get to be in the buzz and vibe of the restaurant. Laurier is a very cool street where to eat and shop.

I see all the good reviews for brunch but I can't comment on that. I would be curious to see if it is better than the dinner. Because the dinner menu was nothing impressive at all. I booked this place for a birthday dinner because we saw all the good reviews. Service was slow and the food portions were too small for a group. Everybody left hungry. The octopus tasted too fishy. There are many better restaurants on Laurier street to try before this one sadly.

Late lunch, nice outdoor space, good service, interesting combination of flavours. Every one was pleasantly surprised and happy with their selections. Would go again!

My husband and I stopped here for a glass of wine while out for a walk and found ourselves ordering Sunday brunch. Great price and great concept- a plate of bread with three or four jams and spreads, cucumber tomato salad, a few olives and dried fruit. Then came a wonderful arugula salad with smoked salmon. This restaurant was not on our radar and we stopped in here on a whim. So glad we did! A fresh, simple and delicious meal. Friendly service and nice ambiance. Put this one on your list!
