Doug's Bbq - Monticello

I thought Doug's BBQ exceeded my expectations. I love BBQ food and usually most places are mediocre but Doug's was very good. I usually am not a fan of grilled bacon because it's usually a mix of raw and burnt but the bacon on the jalapeno poppers was very good. I got the combo plate and it was really good. The ribs included the rib tips which not everyone does, the pulled pork was really good and had good smoke flavor, and the brisket was juicy and not over cooked.

Best brisket ever!!! So tender and flavorful! Steak was pretty good. Enjoyed the au gratin potatoes and coleslaw.

Stayed at the inn across the street and the clerk at the front desk recommended Doug's. We are from Kansas and have been to many other places all over the US that have great BBQ, but the brisket here was the best we ever had. There is no rating for the atmosphere because I got it to go and ate in our room.

The old saying that the best places are the little hole-in-the-wall joints holds true for this place. It was some of the best BBQ we've ever had, and that includes several places we've visited in the Midwest and the Deep South. Doug's is right up there with them, if not even better. The decor isn't much, but we didn't care. The food was wonderful; the brisket was amazingly tender, the bacon wrapped jalapeno poppers were awesome (my wife thought they were a bit too greasy, but I loved them), and the pulled pork was absolutely divine! The honey roll was melt-in-your-mouth heaven. The service was great, too.Note, while the address says they're on Main Street, you'll need to actually turn on to 5th (500) North to get to the parking lot.

The ambiance in the restaurant was very relaxed and impeccably clean! They also have a full bar, and we can't wait to dine in! Now, onto the food… it was AMAZING! We tried the pulled pork and brisket, which were both incredibly tender and flavorful. The au gratin potatoes and coleslaw were hands down the best I've ever tasted! My wife even told me that their carrot cake was one of the best she’s ever had! Overall, this place is a gem, and we will definitely be coming back frequently!
