Hotel de l'Ecu - Montbard

Ambitious menu, but a strange, old-fashioned atmosphere. it was almost empty when we visited; more people went through their rooms than eating. parking also difficult.

The decor here is a bit tired, but eating is excellent, and although the prices eat the menu well from the category of budget, they are not above the tip for this part of the world and in our case they really...reflect the quality of the meal. the two carnivores at the table were very satisfied with their cattlebourguignon and steak and the restaurant made a significant (and successful) up to improvise a vegetarian meal that was as interesting and tasty as the non-veggie food. the only surprise was that the dessert was not exactly as described on the menu, but fortunately it was still delicious. we didn't want to be big vanishers, but the inconspicuous service was so thought out as if we had champagner and the prizistic menu, so also top brands for it.

The restaurant was run by the same family that runs the hotel. Food is good and service is good. It's also good that due to also running a hotel, the couple speaks English.

We dine there on a Saturday of August. Without taking the precaution of booking. But still be careful because the Ecu is one of the good tables in this northern corner of Burgundy. I enjoyed everything that was served to me with great pleasure: meurettes and burgundy beef, all accompanied by Irancy (red wine of Yonne, delicious). Yes, it was a diner concept red wine... I was disappointed by the vegetables that accompanied the succulent burgundy beef: ratatouille, spinach flan and polenta flavored with citrus. All three tasty preparations, but not getting married at all with the beef cooked with wine. Quality pasta (fresh or not) or water cooked potatoes would be sufficient. The choices of my spouse delighted him: a calf dish (I forgot which) and the cheese tray of Burgundy served at good temperature. The quantities are sufficient for a dish and/or an entry to fill the average appetites. The most hungry or greedy will go to the 3rd dish. The service is a little valuable to the place, but it is efficient and friendly. The decoration is the other flat of this review: the large restaurant room is really ugly! If it looks good enough, prefer the inner courtyard.

Nous nous sommes arrêtés dans ce restaurant suite à la lecture de la carte, cela à l'air plutôt prometteur. Vu de l'extérieur, le cadre semble sympa.Mais une fois dans la salle, le mobilier, appréciable, ne va pas avec les murs... plutôt cantine.L'accueil est agréable. Après la lecture de la carte nous prenons le menu à 45. Mais pas de conseils explicites pour le vin.Nous commençons par un apéritif.... et des gougères sans goût et froides (où est le comté ? )... Puis arrive l'amuse bouche : un velouté qui est en fait un soupe sans sel et noyée dans l'eau. L'entrée : manque d'assaisonnements mais bonne cuisson pour le fois gras poêlé. Le saumon/st Jacques en carpaccio très bon.Le plat : cuisson et qualité de la viande et du poisson parfaite mais manque d'accompagnement (garniture presque inexistante ) Le fromage : dommage d'avoir eu l'entame et manque d'affinage. Le dessert : un caramel brûlé pour les abricots poêlé et le régent fraise trop 'collé ' avec la gelatine (Un morceau de gélatine à été trouvé dedans).Outre un rapport qualité prix discutable pour le repas, qui pourrait être vraiment bon avec peu de choses à changer (tout à l'air d'être fait maison), ce qui nous a vraiment posé problème est le service en salle. Un manque de vivacité et de logique. Nous verres terminés de l'apéritif sont restés jusqu'au dessert sur la table, pas d'eau proposée.En bref, nous sommes déçu de la prestation au vu du prix payé. Nous avons fait part de nos remarques à la patronne (nous supposons ) qui nous à gentiment offert l'apéritif. Nous l'en remercions et espérons que des améliorations seront apportées.
