Benno's And Grill - Milwaukee

The bartender was friendly, but unfortunately, the drinks were disappointing. We ordered a vodka tonic and an Old Fashioned. The vodka tonic tasted like flat tonic water with no vodka in it at all. As for the Old Fashioned, it was mostly mix with a few cherries thrown in. It's really too bad because this place had the potential to be a nice dive bar.

I placed a pick-up order and was surprised to see a $2 takeout fee added. Given the pandemic, I’m not dining indoors anywhere, so I guess I’ll just order through Grubhub next time, where that fee didn’t apply, or I’ll wait until summer to visit. I ordered the maple glazed salmon, which was a bit bland, and it came with a side container of maple syrup. It took me a while to realize I should combine them – at first, I thought someone had taken the concept of potato pancakes a bit too far. Once I figured out it was a DIY maple salmon dish, it turned out to be a decent pairing. I did call about 15 minutes before the kitchen closed, so maybe that was a factor. It’s unfortunate because this place is a favorite for my family, and they do have an absolutely fantastic beer selection that I noticed while waiting.

When I moved to Tosa, I was concerned I wouldn't find a bar that matched the one I frequented with my girlfriend. However, ever since I discovered Benno's, those worries have vanished. This bar offers amazing food, and the beer selection is even more impressive. Their daily specials make every visit worthwhile, and the 10oz tap tour is a fun way to try different beers. The rustic atmosphere creates a welcoming environment, filled with friendly faces that make you feel like you're part of the Cheers family.

I can't believe I haven't written a review for Benno's yet! I'm absolutely loving this place. They have an amazing selection of craft beers. I tried North Coast Brewing's Rasputin Imperial Stout, and it was fantastic. For my meal, I ordered the Fried Catfish, which was lightly breaded and absolutely delicious. The homemade fries were incredible—don't forget to try them with the sriracha! The service was excellent, and the prices are very reasonable. We'll definitely be back; we've become regulars at Benno's!

We visited the restaurant to celebrate the end of an era! My wife and I first met there in 1989, and now it's closing its doors. Thank you for all the wonderful memories! Wishing Marty and Susanne all the best in their new adventures!
