Celtic Cavern - Middletown

Nice place, but I had high expectations since it's located in a basement. I visited on a hot summer day, and it was too warm for comfort, so we only stayed for a drink. The menu is fantastic, though, and I would definitely return—just not until the weather is cooler. Update: I went back in November and had a wonderful experience. It was a cozy night out on a chilly, rainy fall evening.

Absolutely delicious! The menu has a strong German influence and is quite authentic, according to my husband. The prices are great for such fantastic food, and the waitstaff are really helpful—they'll let you sample different beers to find the one that suits your taste. I highly recommend this place to anyone just passing through, as we were!

The food was fairly average for takeout. It's decent pub fare, but it really relies on being fresh and served hot. Dishes like burgers, fries, and pretzels particularly benefit from that. If I could, I'd rate it 3.5 stars. I’d give it 4 stars for dine-in. After the pandemic, they provided a fantastic pub experience with really friendly waitstaff.

We had great bacon and smoked gouda burgers. The best burger that I've had out in a very long time! Fries were great. The waitresses were attentive and friendly. I recommend a meal out at the Celtic Tavern you won't be disappointed!
