Tried a number of the liquors. I really liked the barrel rum and the toasted coconut rum. My wife liked the rums but really liked the bourbon and rye whiskey. After the sampling, she ordered an old fashioned and says ti was the best one she has ever had. Orange and sour cherries in juice muddled with bitters then whiskey and a splash of soda. The ice cube was a large cube with an orange slice and cherry frozen inside. As it melted those flavors came out. Only bought 3 bottles as there were out of two items we wanted.
We came here for a bachelorette weekend and it was the best time. Rita greeted us as soon as we came in and told us to take a seat at the bar. She is so much more than a bartender, she's a true mixologist. Rita really knew how to pair the different liquors with certain ingredients and even came up on the spot with new cocktails. This is must for a different, fun experience.
Excellent spirits! Planning is evident at the bar: best Old Fashion I've ever been served. Starts with the ice cube that is frozen with fruit, then on to a flavorful Whiskey that does not disappoint. Took home the BackBay Straight Bourbon Whiskey. I am still working on my own version of that ice cube!!.
After visiting another local distillery, the Cape May distillery was underwhelming. My husband and I stopped by on a Friday evening and it was quiet. There was just one staff member who was the bartender. We sat at a corner table near the bar, but she was mostly tending to the 4 patrons at the bar. They were discussing some local recommendations and generally making small talk. My husband went to the bar and picked spirits to taste including various rums, whiskey, and gin. As expected, the rums were the better options. I went with the blueberry mojito which was full on tarty and didn't have any sweet relief. I would ask for strawberries to be added if you like a sweeter drink. The blueberry rum and actual blueberries, which I believed were muddled, were too much for me. The larger room next to the bar had high top tables and lots of games. Just before we were heading out, a musician was setting up. Depending on your vibes and the time of day, this place could be what you're looking for.
I absolutely love the blueberry rum at this distillery but their are so many issues that justify a two star rating. Shore Craft Distillery formally known as Cape May Distillery, not sure what the hell happe ed when they changed names but whoever is running it needs to figure their **** out. Their rum is no longer in stores, I have been to the actual distillery 11 times. Two of the times, their was a sign on the door saying temporarily closed. The other nine times they didn't have blueberry rum in stock. Also, the price of the rum has increased substantially. Looks as though i will have to find another blueberry rum because dealing with this company is the most frustrating experience.
