I’m staying in the castle with my husband for a few days. This isn’t our first time staying in castles or manor houses through out Europe. We walked over to the beautiful restaurant with the gorgeous view and the lovely furnishings only to discover that they only serve one entree. It was fried chicken. How disappointing. I would have expected much more than this for the type of venue. Mind you it could be the best fried chicken breast but to only offer one main course is unbelievable. I’m on a heart healthy diet and therefore had to go into town to search out another restaurant.
We had the pleasure of visiting this restaurant wonderful food and very friendly staff perfect location
This is a dining experience. I went here as guests of a customer, so of course I did not pay. Had that not been the case, perhaps my rating would have been lower due to the prices. As far as the food, service, and atmosphere, though, the place was great. Every course was good, as was the wine which was paired with each. The wait staff described each course as it came out. Highly recommended for a special dinner.
We chose to stay at Hindsgavl very much because of the good reviews of the restaurant. We do agree, the food was the best we have had in a long time. Just perfect combinations of fresh, local ingredients. However there are several challenges to this restaurant. First of all it smells of mold. A fine dining restaurant should not have a strong smell of mold. The atmosphere was a bit too stiff and everyone (including the staff) were whispering. The restaurant room is too small and people were afraid of speaking loud. Bringing two small kids was extra stressful when you can hear a needle fall. The staff were not around all the time and in the end of our visit, there was not a waiter in the dining room for more than 10 minutes. We had to walk into the kitchen to get assistance. This is very annoying when we had bought an expensive bottle of wine that was in a wine bucket at the other side of the room. Another advice is to do something with the choice of music. In surroundings like this, playing pop songs (like Justin Beiber) is just very wrong and disrespect to the surroundings.
On our way to the Lillebælt Bridgewalk, we stopped at Hindsgavl Slot in Middelfart. This should be a must for any tourist visiting Denmark, on the island of Fyn, approximately midway between Copenhagen and Aarhus. Hindsgavl was mentioned for the first time in the Danish register of manors and estates by King Valdemar II in 1231 AD. Today it is a hotel and conference center, located on stunning grounds that make it popular for weddings. Den Hvide Dame Restaurant is a restaurant, open to everyone. The menu is traditional Danish food. We recommend their smørebrød, Denmark's famous open-faced sandwiches, which really aren't sandwiches at all.
