The Retreat - Mid Suffolk

I initially thought the accommodation upstairs was a good value for a month at £550, despite the broken TV and signs of someone entering my room while I was at work. The room was not cleaned before I arrived, which was important to me as I value hygiene and cleanliness. I found random black socks and rubbish under the bed, and my cleaning wipes were soiled after wiping surfaces. The only positive was that the water temperature for showering was good, but from the 15th-22nd of September, the water was freezing. Despite my inquiries, the issue was not resolved, and there was no heating when it was cold, leading me to catch a fever. No compensation was offered, so I will be seeking legal advice.

I recently dined at The Retreat with my family for Sunday roast and it was fantastic. The roast dinner was impeccable and the portions were quite generous. The staff was friendly and efficient. The standard roast dinner was also very reasonably priced at £11.50. We will definitely return in the future!

I also stayed at The Retreat for a family visit and had their Sunday roast, which was nothing short of delicious. The homemade Yorkshire puddings were a highlight, and at £11.50, it was a great value. However, the real standout was the Thai food. Dishes like Pad Thai, Tom Yam Goom, Pad Ka Prow, and more tasted just like they would in Thailand. The sauces were all made to order, further emphasizing that this is not a fast food establishment. Overall, The Retreat offers exceptional food that is worth booking ahead for. I highly recommend it for anyone looking for a true taste of Thailand.

During the pandemic, once the Retreat was opened, we visited it. It was fine. Although the noise level from their own 'music machine ' was unpleasant they turned it down on request. Unfortunately, once everything was back to normal they again let in the football boozers. Our last visit was a shock to the system. We entered the pub to be blasted by an unfiltered scream of football madness. Clearly the people in charge had no concern about the noise level so we left immediately. Until they get a grip on maintaining a decent place for family and others to meet, it isn 't going to work. We walked half a mile to the alternative and were able to sit down for a quiet pint or two. Please Retreat get your act together and maintain some level of noise control!

The food was amazing. V authentic broth . Only thing that would have improved it was to take out the aromatics ie lemongrass and galangal. Expensive but v gd
