I came here on Tuesday night and was instantly blown away by the warm, buzzing atmosphere. Paul and Carol were extremely friendly and the service was impeccable, as was the ale. I had never been to Pennymoor before, yet I could not have been made to feel more welcome. The decor inside is tasteful and full of character. We sat in the idyllic beer garden and enjoyed some delicious pints. We didn't eat but the food looked delicious and came highly recommended by other customers, many of whom were clearly regulars. The Cruwys Arms is absolute must for anyone visiting the area.
Stay clear of this pub! From the outside it looks idyllic , we entered the pub and were “ greeted” by a rather rude tattooed Irish man casually dressed in shorts and a grubby t-shirt. No covid precautions in place people were standing around. The man wasn’t wearing a mask and didn’t look like he had any intention of wearing one either. We were seated at a table that needed a good clean as it was sticky. Drinks are limited. No selections of good wine, just a choice of colour and that’s it. Think it is probably a locals pub as we “ outsiders” were not made to feel welcome. The grumpy barman bought are drinks over and made a sarcastic comment. He obviously thinks he was funny but we thought he was just a Wally to be honest. We were going to stay and eat but changed our mind. The look of the food coming out of the kitchen looked very bland and nothing exciting. The lady serving food didn’t look to happy either. We won’t be returning. Such a shame as this pub could be an absolute gem. Poor locals of cruwys morchard if that’s all they have to look forward to in their community
Gone downhill recently, I haven't been here for several months but it seems to have new landlord/landlady who are only interested in talking to their friends. Locals congregate at the bar and block access for other customers. Friendly atmosphere that used to pervade the bar room has gone. Customers appear to be an interuption to the barmaids social life.
I forgot to book a table for our Friday night meal, so just went for a drive and came across this lovely pub. We were warmly greeted and invited to taste the local ale, which was nice. It soon became well attended yet the service was swift. We ate Half a chicken and chips peas salad and fresh peas. I had Steak and Kidney pudding with Jacket potatoe, salad and peas. The food was hot and filling (reasonable prices and tasted great. Nice attentive staff and will return soon now we know where this little gem is.
