Al Padrino - MESSINA

A wonderful neighborhood restaurant with good “home cooking” and informal and relaxed atmosphere. The kitchen in open to the dining area and you can watch the 3 female chefs work their magic. The food is the best kind of homemade food, simple, delicious, reasonably priced. You get the feeling that this a place where locals come for dinner. A couple brought in their well behaved dogs and that sparked conversation among the guests all the table around us lovely. The place references The Godfather movie in its decor.

On the night of 14th Feb. went there at 7:45PM. It was completely booked out, one 15 morning. I went there at 12:20 as google suggested open time. It was half open but not willing to serve. I know it's popular but they can be more polite to explain to the customers.

Two people recommended this restaurant to us for lovely homemade dishes from the area of Messina and their recommendations were perfect.. The Mare Misto is excellent but beware it included three plates and was delicious and very generous. The pasta Norma was very good along with the calamari ripieni. We had to wait until 8.00pm for them to open but enjoyed some local wine outside before being admitted as soon as they were ready. Highly recommended. The service was also great.

Small and very crowded place, unfortunately in my opinion badly attended. with regard to the food appetizers of fish and rustic in the norm, good ice cream, possibility to take wine out of the house well refrigerated, good and cheerful service
