Zur Kate - Mesa

I worked briefly in Mesa in 1988 and discovered a wonderful German restaurant, jump forward to 2023, I’m back in Mesa and thought “I wonder if that great German restaurant with the accordion player is still there?” Well it is!! Zur Kate looked just the same, might even be the same accordion player. Very authentic in food and decor, great service, German beers on tap. We shared the Zweibel schnitzel, two sides and rye bread, with a couple of Warsteiner Dunkels, we were stuffed and happy!

Wow! This is the most authentic german food I’ve had since being Germany. I got the Jägerschnitzel and it was fantastic! I would 100% recommend this to anyone looking for a quaint and delicious place to eat.

Very authentic. German decor and atmosphere with a lovely background of live accordion music. They seemed short-staffed; however, our server was amazing. The food was good as was the beer. Would recommend for pork and beef lovers.

What a great restaurant. This had some of the best we have ever had from a restaurant. It is a very quaint place. Service was a little slow, but I think they said they had a new cook trying his best to learn the dishes. Still outstanding tasty dinner. Will for sure go back. I would suggest that on Friday get there as soon as they open, because they had a wait an hour after they had opened. Also very reasonable prices too.

I came here on a recommendation and it was quite good. I had the Jager Schnitzel with mushroom gravy, red cabbage, and German potato salad. The prep and service was fast. I had enjoyed the schnitzel and cabbage. The potato salad was ok. They served a marble rye with butter. To wash it down I opted for their Pilsner that was crisp and refreshing. For dessert I tried their apple strudel. It was ok. Not fresh or homemade as the pastry was soft; not crisp. The vanilla sauce was on the watery side. I doubt I?ll order it again, and will try their Black Forest cake. It?s strange that they?re open from 4:00pm to 8:00pm. As good as they are, that?s their hours. Mind the local drinking at the bar, and don?t say you?ve not been warned to limit the conversation as he?s opinionated; and takes offense over cooking. Very strange character.
