Matta's Mexican Grill - Mesa

The dining experience has changed; it’s not what it used to be, but the service was excellent. They no longer offer a complimentary small cup of salsa with the meal (at least not for me). The prices are quite steep compared to other restaurants, but no one else has salsa like theirs. They do have the best beer around. If you’re craving great salsa, I recommend heading to Mattas, where you can order a 32 oz cup along with a large bag of their delicious chips. Enjoy!

The food I had was decent, but the atmosphere was quite disappointing. The furniture is falling apart and seems to be held together with duct tape. There are no waitstaff; instead, customers place their orders at the counter and pay upfront. After that, they have to find their own seating and wait for their food to be brought out. The meals come with extra bowls of chips and salsa, but once again, there’s no service. Diners need to refill their own drinks and grab their own silverware. If you pay before receiving your meal, the receipt includes a large section for tips, even though there’s no actual service provided. Mata used to be a lovely place for a family evening, but now it feels more like a run-of-the-mill fast food joint. I’m sure the original owners would be disappointed.

Eating was great, service was great. I miss mattas. Yes, that's not the original, and I guess the matta hasn't got it anymore, but it was still great. I worked years ago in original when my 21-year-old was just a little and I couldn't wait to return to arizona to go to matta. I even ordered salsa and hot sauce online from mattas a few years for my family for christmas (yes they loved her Christmas gift! and I had it in a few days. I recommend this place! the plate with the burrito without sauce and tear and drilling is the meal of the child. it's huge. the girls share it and took eat after home.

Absolutely the worst Mexican Food I have had. UPDATE This place made my whole family sick! Food poisoning?DO NOT EAT HERE! We were looking forward to a new place to try and the food was gross. Better quality at TB. It?s no wonder they have you pay upfront because we all left our food at the table. Plus it was not worth the money. The place was not clean! Do not ever go here! Listen to the other negative reviews because I do not know who they are paying for the 5 star ones!
