Trattoria Al Boia - MERANO

Shocking. How can a restaurant allow its staff not to wear face masks in times like this?! This is irresponsible and unacceptable. Such a shame es the food is really good. Will not go back

Good atmosphere. Good food and drinks. The personal was very kind. I offer to visit this restaurant.

We arrived at 19:00 and was shown to our pre booked table. Friendly but unengaged waiters. First dish was siciliano vegetables cooked together in a ragout. Just an indistinguishable and uninteresting mix of vegetables served with indifference. Main dish was fish served as a whole with head, fin and all the boned. It was served soaked in tomato sauce so it was impossible to separate the meat for the bones and the fins. Additionally the skin hadn’t been freed from the scales, so the scales was all over the sauce. Very poor experience.

After walking around the old town of Merano and feeling a little peckish, we found a small restaurant to eat in....Al Boia Henkerhaus, in the old town of Merano. Boy oh boy, did we hit the jackpot or what? Al Boia has a very small menu (hint small good) but delivers unpretentious and very delicious food. Travelling with friends from Norway, Thailand and my wife from New Zealand, we have visited a lot of good restaurants before, but MARKO from Al Boia Henkerhaus, made us feel so welcome, joking with us and even put a chilli plant for my Thai friend on the table so she could enjoy chillies with her Spaghetti Vongole, really made the difference. The food was so good, we decided to go back immediately the next day for lunch and had another great meal. Marko even invited us for a grappa after the meal. I can only say that we will be back whenever we are back in Merano (4 x in the last 18 month) as we really love it here. Thank you Marko and chef for the delicious food and keep up the great work. We will promote your restaurant to our friends and family and WE WILL BE BACK

Wow! We found Il Boia in Trip Advisor and trusted it would be good...it was spectacular. Amazing food, incredible service and a generous amount of laughter. We were lucky enough to be offered a special dish of homemade tagliatelle with fresh shaved white truffles! Are you kidding me? Insane! Never to be repeated in our lifetime. We will remember Il Boia as one of the best evenings ever!
