Crema Cioccolato - MERANO

It's an interesting place. You go, buy ice cream and get to little rest, and the owner comes and badly removes you from the table. Reason: He says you can't sit on the cone with ice cream and removes his customer from the table. First of all three other tables were free that time so nobody was waiting there, what is not wondering me. There is no excuse to kick out your customer out from the place, sorry… corn or not, its a miserable explanation. Never again… This is one of the reasons why Italy is constantly in crisis. Bad business, bad manager… Do not go, I do not recommend!!!

We took the train from Bolzano to Merano for a quick day trip one warm day in September. Walking to the center from the train station along the riverside promenade, this was the first gelateria we encountered, and it looked inviting. They did not have much in the way of vegan flavors (just fruit sorbets), so we went off the wagon to have coffee gelato (my favorite) and stracciatella (my wife’s favorite). Both were delicious, and the owner Marco graciously set us up at small table (there are only two or three) with glasses of water to accompany our gelato. We had a fun conversation with Marco in our beginner Italian. He and his wife Cristina moved to Merano to start the gelateria just one year ago after Marco retired from the Rome police force. Marco chose a good business, because he obviously likes to engage with his customers. Marco’s warm welcome was the highlight of our short visit to Merano. Mille grazie, Marco e Cristina!!!

I suppose that you can get only good ice cream in Italy. But this ice cream bar gives you more. The ice cream it self is best I have ever had (tried 2 flawors: plain vanilla and vanilla+cherries+chocolate chips). And the waffle cone was truly taste full and nicely crispy. But the service atmosphere created by the elderly persons behind the bar made the whole memorable difference after all.
