Contribuiți la feedbackWent for lunch with a large group. They were accommodating and took our orders on time and correctly. Some of the chicken/beef dishes were a bit dry but tasty overall. I'm sure dinner time is much better.
Great food, and fast service. Nice Cafe seating on the sidewalk.
Place was empty. I ordered to go during lunch time cost almost $20. Paid $20 with tip. Food tasted okay, lots of rice and salad, but not much meat. If I hadn't asked for utensils there would've been none on the to go bag that was handed to me. Won't come back. Probably why the place was empty during lunch time. Maybe serve generously and you'll have customers? Good luck staying open for business.
First time having Singaporean food and tried the Char Kway Teow. This dish is like as if Chinese Chow Ho Fun and Thai Pad See Ew had a baby it wasn't bad. But I was disappointed in the small portion for the price of $20. I was left hungry still after. Sorry won't be coming back.
As a born and bred Singaporean living in the Bay Area, I'm always on the lookout for food from home. Shiok is one of just a handful of places here that hits the spot for me. The food is simple and unpretentious, with authentic flavors that remind me of hawker center fare from back home. Try the fried carrot cake--it's not on the menu, but they'll make it on request for those in the know. I also like the hokkien mee, which they cook in the Singapore style. Is any of this gourmet food? Honestly, no. Back home, each of these would just be a $4 common dish. But here in the Bay Area, Shiok is a rare and very welcome outpost of the flavors of Singapore. Love it!
