I grew up going to this restaurant every week in its original location, and the move to Carrefour has been a downgrade in the character department. I think they were attempting to class it up, but it has lost its identity a little bit. (I still miss that Mrs. Pac Man cocktail table and the centipede arcade game. I recently had the most wonderful trout, and will probably never have anything else there again except for that fantastic fish! Veggie sides are touch-and-go. I find them either too peppery, too smoky, oversalted, or underseasoned. My cabbage was just fine. Dear Mr. B's, if you're reading this, please don't ever sell that jukebox, or you might as well just change your name. (Seriously, call me first, I'll buy it. Signed, The Boogie Woogie Bugle Girl
Mr. B's has been located on the back side of the Carrefour for as long as I can remember the Carrefour. I used to eat there when I lived shopped nearby had friends in the Neighborhood. It's not a place where you pass by see it. It's definitely an Over-40 Neighborhood Favorite a Regulars Place. Everyone I could hear had dined there before. Refreshing to be among Diners who dressed like they were going out to Dinner. Vinyl Tablecloths, but no Flowers or Candles. Cloth Napkins would have been nice, considering the type of Food Clientele. I Cajun Creole. I've eaten a ton of it a lot of restaurants. Cooked it home for parties too, as I took classes from the Masters bought cookware special dishes in NOLA years ago. So hard to choose from the Menu, because I want it all! If a Trio Sampler is offered, then that's what I order. Tonight I decided on a bowl of Crawfish Etouffee $10.50). It had that Cajun red pepper heat just like it's supposed to. Mister B's is dimly lit, I could neither see nor taste Crawfish. My Server came by she couldn't see them either. The bowl went back to the Kitchen a young man brought it back 5 minutes later with plump pink Crawfish on top. See if you can pick Bowl #1 Bowl #2. Servers were well groomed, dressed in black, experienced. Soft Jazz played in the background.
The food is average, at best. Quickly after arriving it became clear that the servers were either overwhelmed or just incompetent. Our waitress took 3 breaks from our ordering to argue with the hostess. Don't bother. Not at all worth the money.
SINGLE TO LEFT FIELD! Throwback. This place is really cool. For some reason it feels like it's been here a long time (which it has). The furniture and decor is very nice, but probably dated. It's never crowded and the entrance to the restaurant is actually facing the South (railroad tracks) on the backside of a small shopping center. I grabbed dinner here with a friend the other night and we were very pleased. I had the grilled chicken on rice with a backed potato and slaw. Everything was very good. The chicken was cooked well, juicy, and had lots of flavor. The potato was soft and fluffy and the slaw was prepared well. My friend ordered the chopped steak and said it was killer good. I've only been here a few times, but can't wait to go back.
Today was my first lunch experience at Mr. B's. my honey took me to this amazing Southern style place and we dined on pork chops, potatoes, green beans, collard greens cabbages& tilapia I definitely recommend this place for lunch and dinner especially if you love Southern style cooking Amen
