Contribuiți la feedbackWent there at midday on Wednesday as it wasn't too busy. I think it's over rated compared to the same one in Hong Kong. They have fewer selections which makes the food come out faster. The food is quite bland and smaller portions compared to your usual yum cha places. It is very pricey here in Melbourne. The seatings are squished and few sitting on stools. You get the feeling of getting you in and out. But that's not what yum cha is about. It's about enjoying your food/ tea. We ordered tea they don't give you a pot they pour you a cup so you have to keep asking. Which gets annoying especially when they're busy. They do have buzzers on the table so you don't have to wave them down. The toilet is in the arcade so you have to walk out the restaurant and into the arcade. The front staff is friendly but the wait staff are too busy to be friendly. They're famous for their pork bum but other than that I've had better yum cha else where.
2 of us wandered in out of curiosity. No queue and immediate service. We liked that. All the tables around us had ordered the signature pork buns, egg sponge cake and chicken feet (my favourite but not my wife's). We tried the pork buns, rice with chicken, sausage and mushroom, congee and pork cheung fun. The pork buns were too sweet for my taste but the other dishes were very good, especially the skin of the cheung fun and the rice. Prices were around $7.50 - 10 per dish. I'll try the chickens feet next time.
'Michelin Star Restaurant' grabbed our eyes and before we could realise, we were inside the restaurant placing the order through unique medium. We ordered three dishes from the Special Menu of the Month and three from their regular ones. What we realised is that this is the cheapest Michelin Star Restaurant Tim Ho Wan's branch in Melbourne but the efforts seem to have gone into presentation and 0 taste. Everything tasted so basic or less than okay. Ambience is nothing to brag about... neither is food. We have eaten better food at lesser known eateries.
My family came here with no particular expectations and came away plesently surprised with quality. Order about 4 or so different items and all came out quickly and of good quality, much better than at some yum cha places we have been. The menu options are a bit limited so hopefully that improves in future. Golden Tofu was a favourite for myself and my 3 year old!
Quick service, great fresh food. The baked buns with BBQ pork were so tasty, as was everything else we tried. We'll definitely be back.
