La Porchetta - Melbourne

La Porchetta "the original" in Carlton North is everything you expect from a family Italian. Adorned with photos on the wall from old meisters, racing legends (in red), premiers and prime ministers this place does uncomplicated Italian well. Dishes like risotto, pasta and pizza, are perfect for sharing - guaranteed leftovers as well. All washed down with house red at $17/l, a great choice of icecreams and the best coffee / tiramisu combo in town @ 7.50. Make sure you go for a walk after dinner! Oh, and did I mention, perfect for kids?!!! Big thumbs up.

Used to be exceptional value for money and a great family outing. Great for kids, but needs to up the value piece.

Lots of choices along Rathdowne St but we had been recommended the original La Porchetta and loved the character the place had as we walked along the street. It did not disappoint. Great service. Really didn't need the garlic bread with the complimentary rolls but it was so good. Meals were very generous serves and all very tasty. Felt like I went around the world tonight! Very reasonably priced too. Disappointed I couldn't fit a gelato in!

Dropped in for a tasty bite, the service was very quick and efficient, water glasses and rolls soon followed. But the pizzas were very dry and over cooked, charcoal bits of ham on top of the pizzas don't look good or taste great. Not what I would have expected from a restaurant that's main selling point is its pizzas.

Comfortable family venue, food is well priced and food is great. Great place to take the kids and staff are very friendly.
