Gallery Restaurant - Melbourne

Due to severe storm warning we dined in for dinner. Customer service was very good. Staff very pleasant and attentive. I ordered lamb rump, my wife ordered the pork with a side serve of chips and carrots and almonds. Both meals were delicious and well presented. Service through out the night was spot on.

When ever my family comes to melbourne they always stay at this hotel and the we have had many meals here both breakfast and dinner. Both services are different to one another but have never been let down. I do firmly believe that the staff have gone out of the way to look after my family. Breakfast is mainly self serve however my mother had and accident late last year and had her arm in a sling. The staff assisted her to with carrying drinks and food to the table on her behalf which was so lovely to see. The dinner service was impeccable and although very quiet for Xmas eve we were treated like royalty. The food was outstanding for a hotel and on an ordinary basis wouldn't choose to dine in a hotel restaurant. Make sure you check it out if you can you won't be let down!!

As the previous reviewer noted, the Gallery provides good but not fine dining. The room is old fashioned but comfortable. It will be interesting to see what the present upgrade to the dining room will result in when completed later in the year.This is the third time i have dined here. Each time i have been more than happy. Unless you have an Accor Plus dining card discount, it is not cheap dining, enters app 20$ and mains 35 - 40$, with most sides at 9.50$. Serving sizes are moderate, so most could eat 3 courses (without side dishes).We only had mains and sides as we had grazed in the executive lounge prior to dining - note the executive lounge is for the level of Hotel a comfortable and pleasant benefit to executive floor rooms. Like the Gallery the wait staff there are also very good.The best of the meals we had was the lamb. Full of flavour, beautifully cooked to order and very nicely plated. Highly recommended. My son had the porterhouse steak. This again was cooked exactly as ordered, medium rare, a very nice steak. I had the Chicken Ballotine. This was satisfactory dining. The plating again was artful but for me the chicken was presented just warm, which is a pet peeve of mine., hence the four star review.For sides, we had the heritage carrots and an excellent pomme purée. Overall, this is worthwhile dining if you cannot be bothered going into the CBD.

We ate here twice while staying at the hotel and certainly enjoyed our two dinners at a table by the window looking out on to the edge of Fitzroy Gardens. The menu was very good, but would become a bit limited for longer stay, as the range looks a bit narrow. (I don't know how often it changes.) The pick of the meals by far was the seared lamb, which not only tasted delicious but came with the most amazing plate presentation. The staff are very helpful, and engaging, which added to the meal for us. Desserts are "as expected" for a restaurant of this quality, though perhaps lack a bit of imagination. The whole dining experience is about to change as the restaurant is about to undergo extensive renovation.
