Fish & Chippery by The Atlantic

Friendly and happy crew of male staff last evening. Informative and happy to chat while serving and doing their work. Just dropped in for a pre dinner drink and something to nibble on as early for our restaurant booking else where. Had some grilled fish and chips to share and a couple of soft drinks. Was most enjoyable.

We had eaten there 18 months previously and, although overpriced, we had enjoyed our meal so much we decided to revisit. The service was still excellent but, in our opinion, the food was not of the same standard as on our previous visit. My wife had an atlantic salmon dish which had a sauce she found repulsive to taste. The waitress did arrange for the salmon to be drained of the sauce and put on a fresh plate, which was appreciated. I ordered a steak. The steak itself was cooked perfectly excepting that it had some kind of coating on the outside which was so strongly flavoured I couldn't taste the actual steak. We've had much better meals at half the price at other restaurants.

It has fewer seating arrangement, smaller than I thought. I tried the soft shell crab which is great though a bit dry. My hubby tried the fish meal combo and he was disappointed. The chips is good and the burger is a so so. Overall is okay, a bit of a good and bad.

Quirky little place on the river bank.Staff friendly and helpful, fish is FRESH with a reasonable selection, beautifully cooked to order. Salads are excellent and the chips are definitely the BEST IN MELBOURNE.Prices are very acceptable , and a perfect location from which to watch the passing parade.If what you want is good fresh food, look no further.

Was out with my family for my daughter's first birthday after going to the aquarium. I stupidly wanted to eat at this place. $43 later for two combos and two small drinks and the seagulls ended up eating most of my lunch. The chips tasted terrible. The potato cake tasted terrible. The flake was so slimy and greasy the batter just slid off the shark (and it too tasted terrible). I wish I had have just waited till I got home for half the price my local fish and chip shop cooks up fantastic fish and chips!
