We shared a ravioli dish and a pizza. The sauce was exquisite. The pizza (Voclanic) was everything its description promised. I was taken to compliment them. Service staff were also very good.
Walked the walk of Lygon Street and we settled on the Cafe Corretto. Despite being a typical Melbourne cold, windy and rainy day, we dined on the footpath, keeping warm by the overhead heating. It was mid-afternoon and we were heading to Etihad that night for the footy and decided that a meal in Little Italy was preferable to the expensive rubbish available at the ground. The menus and water arrived promptly, and then the service went downhill at a great rate of knots, from there. We had to go in search of the waiter to place our order. After waiting (again) for our bottle of wine, I went in search of the waiter. Our wine was sitting on the bar. I offered to take it to the table, but no, someone would bring it out....soon. OK, it arrived five minutes later. Then our entree arrives and, after a few bites out comes our main course. Thank God we didn't order our desert with the rest of our order. Pathetic, really. There wouldn't have been more than five occupied tables, so I'd hate to see them on a Saturday night after a big soccer match or the Grand Prix, if that's how they run their business. In case you were wondering, the entree and my main was delicious, but my wife's main meal repeated on her for the next day......why do Melbourne cooks need to put chorizo in everything.....least of all, spaghetti bolognaise? And yes, we did have to go and find the bill ourselves, and then wait for some grumpy **** to take our money. We may go back, but it won't be in this lifetime.
This was one of the few places that didn't try to bribe or coerce us in, which instantly made it a good choice. Fantastic range, lots of drinks to choose from, service was amazing for how busy it was! The heaters outside were great. Only downside was that our pastas come out about 5/10 minutes before the other mains, but considering how busy it was, that was fine! Food was delicious.
We went for dinner on a Saturday night, so it was a little busy but we were quickly seated. However, service wasn't great and we had to keep asking for water for the table. We ordered entree sized pasta dishes and they were massive. Wine is good value, and the house wine is ok.
A friend had recommended we go down Lygon street for ''the best Italian food in Melbourne'' we stumbled across this place, staff were welcoming and sat us down, wide variety of options on the menu. I ordered fettuccine pasta with Napoletana sauce and meatballs. The meatballs had lots of fatty bits in it and is not the traditional meatball I am used of.. these were pork meatballs which had a different taste, I would have rathered beef meatballs. The pasta was very average and the sauce very oily. My partner had a margarita pizza that was a tad undercooked with the base a bit soggy from all the cheese and too much sauce.
