Caudwell's Mill Craft Centre - Matlock

We stopped after a walk to lunch. as others have said, they would hope that a veggie caffe for vegans a bit better. only suppe or toastia with mushroom pate and hummus for vegans. my man had homage as he is a veggie and I decided to a toastia that was good enough and helped through the beautiful salat. would have liked to have had cake, but no vegan option except folding jacket, which is not very exciting. I understand that there are many vegetarians, but with the growing herbal movement it seems strange that a vegetarian caffe no longer vegan options.

Overall the mill is excellent. perfect when you walk in the bakewell opposite. the staff is friendly and helpful and it is great for vegetarians. but let's see that. most people are looking for vegan food today. there was a vegan cake a carrot cake, but we counted 14 who were not vegan and there was suppe and a vegan toastie. if they have more vegan options, then I would be happy to recommend it, it is good if they were one of those old fashion vegetarian styles though! updated by previous review on 2022-03-28

I have enjoyed many meals at this restaurant over the years and have never been let down. It is a charming, cozy little café in a lovely setting.

For a vegetarian place they would expect that at least half of the menu vegan, there was a toastia and two suppen and that is it. the toastia was made with pate from a tube. (I know that only because she sold the pipes in the next load, miserable woman who served us could not take care of less. it did not seem to know what was vegan after we asked several times, they were about a cheese toastia we had ordered (while they told us it was vegan) and it was dropping with milk. we said that this vegan cheese she said it was “normal cheese”. I don't have to tell people how milk is normal. what this was on the way back to the car, we saw that baby calves were donated in their tiny cages by their mothers and it broke our hearts. abysmal service, terrible vegan menu. they like it when they are vegetarian, the salads and cakes looked better than what we had.

We visited here last weekend and had a wonderful time! I rang ahead and checked if there was disabled access for my mum, which there was, and we pre-booked a table. There were five of us for lunch, a couple of us had the special of no chick'n pie', which came with a lush salad, a couple had flatbread and hummus with salad and another had mint and pea soup. The order arrived swiftly and was hot and delicious. The whole menu was vegan with the exception of the cakes, but there was flapjack, parkin, and fruit cake which were vegan. We had flapjack and parkin for dessert and the cost of the meal was around £70.
