Hatfield Mccoy Resort/inn - Matewan

Our room was on the first floor and had clearly been a storefront in this historic building; it was quite spacious. The large front window served as the living room, which was furnished with a sofa, coffee table, side table, and TV. The outer wall had a dining area and a full kitchen, complete with a little stool near the coffee maker. The interior featured two sizable beds, each with shelving and hangers, plus a small kids' room at the back with a twin bed beside a raised bathroom (the plumbing was elevated on this level). There were two small steps that should be manageable for those with mobility challenges. The shower had very hot water and great water pressure. The decor was tasteful, and we especially loved the whimsical sign that read, "If you want breakfast in bed, sleep in the kitchen." There's a charming patio at the back for guests of the restaurant to enjoy or for a quiet place to sit. The area is ATV-friendly, and across the main road is a trailhead. It's within walking distance to three restaurants, a beer store, two gift shops, and the owner's tour business. You can also easily walk or ride across the bridge into Kentucky, where you'll find the Paw Paw Tree location, a gas station, and a grocery store. The Matewan Depot is also a short walk away. One thing to note is that a train passes by around 3 to 5 times each night, approximately 25 yards from the building. The ladies who run this establishment are exceptionally kind and responsive, addressing all our questions promptly.

I spent a few nights with friends and had a wonderful experience. The accommodations were excellent, and I really appreciated that the restaurant was conveniently connected, making it easy to grab meals. The food was delicious! The town is quiet and charming, and the historic sites and views of the river are impressive.

Incredible hospitality, impeccably clean rooms, and the warmest hosts, Don and Kathy, who have a rich history to share! If you're planning a trip to Matewan, this is the perfect place to stay. The rooms are clean and affordable, and the BBQ is the best for miles around. You'll also have easy access to several trailheads. The Hatfield McCoy Resort Inn is sure to exceed your expectations!

The host and hostess care. They were very accommodating to my special needs. We found the location perfect for our time in Matewan. We have been in Matewan on several trips. Very historic. We enjoyed riding and look forward to our next visit.
