Make sure to buy the takeaway containers as you will definately have left overs. Not a fancy place, very family friendly, worth the money but be sure to share and not buy big. The meals are huge as well as the salads. Staff are very friendly and the food is very fresh, nice, generous and lots of it.
I've eaten at this restaurant before when is was at a pub in Petersham and I was excited to try it again now that's it's branched out on its own. The schnitzels itself are massive and can easily be shared between 3-4 people. The schnitzels come on their own so the sides are extra. We paid $29 for the Mexican schnitzel which was nice. You have a choice of chicken and veal. The veal is really nice and tender. We were a table of ten and had about 4 schnitzels between all of us and still had left overs to take home so just goes to show how big they are. The only thing that I don't like about this restaurant is that it is cash only. Get an eftpos machine!!! I would definitely recommend to come here if you are craving a schnitzel.
Aside from being forced onto the set menu, which is not worth the money unless you're prepared to turn a night out into a game of Man vs. Food, the food here is far below standard. The prices are fine, $30 for a giant family-sized pizza worth of schnitzel, but the schnitzel you get would make you hate schnitzel. It's dry, the toppings are pathetic, and the chicken ones were barely cooked. As we were forced onto the set menu for booking 12, though only having 10 in the group (we were told that we had to have the set menu or we'd be charged $20 for the two missing party members), which meant a table full of chips and poorly dressed greek salad. We ordered 4 schnitzels - three turned up and 1 of them was not even the one we ordered. Later we ordered a 4th again and guess what... it never turned up. The waitress was short and rude and treated us as if we were a hinderance for wanting gravy with our dry, cold chips. We ordered coke and that never appeared but plenty of substandard sangria did. I guess if you drink enough of that you can overlook the awful schnitzel. You can also deal with the fact the place looks like a downstairs toilet with white tiles and lots of mirrors. You sit on worn chairs, or if you're lucky a hard white bar which is only comfortable if you sit on your jacket, as I did. The place has the appeal of a cafeteria, you even eat off plastic plates the size of a kid's cafeteria tray, it's far from a restaurant. Add that it's down a unnervingly steep flight of stairs, like a good downstairs public toilet, and you really get some atmosphere. I would recommend this place if every other place (including Oportos) in Marrickville is closed otherwise I'm sure the Tavern next door has a better atmosphere, better staff, and nicer food.
The food was amazing. Delicious and one serve is more than enough to feed a family of 5. Make sure you get a takeaway container for the leftovers. Not a fancy restaurant but brilliant for a family outgoing on a budget
OK, so let's get one thing straight, this is a no frills eatery so expect to line up a counter to order, go and grab your own plates, cutlery and napkins. Take a number and then sit down at a table. The food will then come out at some point in the evening :)We went there on a friday night, about 7ish and it was very busy and accordingly we got some pretty slow service. My friend and I ordered the meat platter for 2 (supposedly!). We first got the garden salad and then waited about 45 mins or so before the massive platter came to our table. The platter was insanely massive - i think there were like 5 or so massive chunks of chicken, another 5 or so of beef , plus a few large chunks of Pork, couple of sausages, 2 large chunks of beef ribs all on top of a bed of what seemed like a kilo of hot chips that had absorbed the meat juices! We did well i think to finish about half of it and we still managed to go home with a takeaway trayful each of leftover! Seriously massive. The place is definitely no fine dining but expect a good home style South American bbq meat platter. Is it absolutely amazing??... definitely not.... but for what it is, it is absolutely fantastic and incredible value for money. They are licensed so you can have a beer or wine to wash down your food!I'd love to come back and taste their schnitzel and this time i will bring another 3-4 mates to help us!
