We had a soup and three different meals and even our pickling daughters finished their meals. The prices are also great and even if you are on budget, you will find the right meal for you.
After the discovery of this restaurant we could not help but make it our place all week that we were in Mariposa. The staff are super nice and attentive. The young man and the lady who are servers also seem to work very hard. They always seemed to do something: cleaning tables, brushing or polishing the cutlery. That was particularly important to me because many employees in other companies in Mariposa always seemed to be on their phone as if they didn't enjoy their job or where it was easy. Anyway, here the workers seemed to enjoy their job, so the customer service was excellent. Let's talk about food, a Latina born and raised in Mexico, I can undoubtedly say that the food here is the best Mexican food you find in Mariposa. Is it 100% authentic? The answer is no. Their tortillas are definitely not authentic, but hey, they were still delicious. If they've handmade their tortillas, they'd take their food to a whole different level, but I understand why they don't. The only thing I would say is that they never played a music when we visited the restaurant. I feel that some Mexican music REALLY set the ambience for the entire restaurant. Anyway, the food is delicious, the drinks are refreshing, the salsa and chips are fantastic, the workers are fantastic. 100% recommend this place, come support a family business!
I was there twice. Great food and service. Love the fact that it is open until late, great place to go after hiking / driving in Yosemite. Portions are good. Service is also good.
My wife and I took a day trip to Mariposa last Wednesday and we were just by chance near Don Ruben's Mexican restaurant around the noon. That was a great place for lunch before it went to the museum. Everything about this place was great: the ambience. food, service, even prices. As usual, I ord the Chile Relleno, which I find as amatu cook, to make the most difficult Mexican dish. You have it on the menu as a side order for $4.50 per. I thought to start with them and maybe a taco or enchilada. Since it was lunch, and I am diabetics, that was Perftec. If I had eaten with rice and beans, I might have to take some insulin. You have a senior and children's menu that my wife ordered and the part was perfect. She ordered the Taco court, that was $7.50 and it was just a little more than she could eat. I generally don't like to go over 4 stars for restaurants, but this gets 5, because my wife said the beans and rice are the best they had in Mexican restaurant for a long time. Tip: The mixed margaritas $8.00) come in a fish bowl. Recommend to order them if you plan to visit the museum after your meal. But whatever you do, do not miss the museum when you visit Mariposa.
We had our anniversary dinner at this joint, at Mariposa. The day was Cinco-de-mayo too so the restaurant was jam-packed. The waiters were impressive in the way they handled the crowd and service, food was great too specially the enchiladas with the diablo sauce. Overall experience was pretty satisfying.
