Billy Miner Alehouse & Cafe

OK, I have to admit, I've been here a few times... The Billy Miner is different than most pubs in the area. Smaller, more intimate, a better energy, great selection of craft beers and good burgers and pizza. A great location in old Haney, (Maple Ridge) along the Fraser River. The patio and all the windows overlook the river. Lots of locals, lots of regulars and a good mix of young and old. It doesn't try to be a sports bar and in this case, that's a good thing.

Love the Billy Miner. Took my grandson for dinner while he was visiting from Toronto. Food was great and it was beautiful outside looking over the river.

This is a small pub style restaurant down by the river in Maple Ridge. I think they must cater to the beer drinkers because I would never go there for food. The waitress greeted us and handed us food stained menus. These were left on our table long after we ordered. Finally we put them on a near-by table. I ordered the house salad which sounded good as it came loaded with tomatoes, onions, goat cheese and nuts. When it arrived it was a cup of greens with 1/2 cup of diced veggies on top. (As they also make pizzas here I guess the diced veggies are really pizza toppings) The dice was so small I had a hard time detecting which were onions and which were peppers. And there were no nuts. When I asked the waitress she said they don't add them anymore because of food allergies. Really? Then change the menu to reflect this. After all it was just a sheet of printed paper. There was no choice of dressing, just a plastic cup with oil. Maybe there was vinegar in the bottom but I wasn't about to pour all that oil on my meagre salad just to find out. When it came time to pay the bill it took 3 employees behind the cash to figure out the transaction. Honestly, how they stay in business is a mystery to me. Maybe there are a lot of beer drinkers in Maple Ridge.

We have gone to this pub a few times and had a great experience the food is vary good and the selection of beer is as well. However we went there this past weekend for lunch and it started out fine we got our food and then our server disappeared in the middle of our meal. We waited a while for someone to come and check on us we wanted a second round of beer but after about 15 minutes with no beer my friend went inside to ask about our server and another round she was told our server left for personal reasons and would return. After 10 more minutes our server did return and proceeded to take orders from new customers and did not come out to check on us after almost 30 minutes of waiting for another round. My friend had to go inside to ask again for another round which was delivered quickly. After we finished we sat and waited for another 10 to 15 minutes for her to return and ask if we wanted anything else or the bill I had to get up and go inside and ask for the bill. Thing happen and I'm sure there was a good reason we received such poor service but never at any point did we get an apology in most cases a server would go out of there way to make up for there mistake but not here. I hope things like this don't happen in the future it was handled vary poorly !

Probably the second best best patio in town (next to the Kingfisher) relax for hours and watch the river & train traffic go by. Beer choice is excellent and changes often.
