I had no reservation, but the manager took care of me anyway. The sunset views were stunning far while I ate my meal out on the front porch deck with two long stairs cases going down on both sides. You could tell you were close to hurricane weather because all the buildings are up on stilts here right next to the water front. I had a good talk with the manager who retired from the hotel industry, and this is his retirement plan that married the owner late in life. They both love the place you can tell by the decor and atmosphere. I did find out that hurricane Katrina took the original building down, but they rebuilt it back. The restaurant has been in business for over 100 years. I had the grouper fish with shrimp for the main course. The sauce was made from scratch and was very creamy. I loved it! The green beans were seasoned different than I have ever had but very good. I also had the potato salad now that was a delicious treat with some Coleslaw in it. I topped the meal off with the cream Brulee that was browned to perfection with a strawberry and whip cream on top. Do I recommend this restaurant? Absolutely! Why? I recommend this restaurant not just for the amazing sunset views, great food, or staff, but the location and story of the restaurant. So, what are you waiting for ? Don't take my word for it go experience it for yourself today.
The BEST food I've had in awhile. So fresh and clean. Good drinks and awesome environment. Friendly staff
Loved our dinner here. We decided to eat here on our way back across Lake Pontchartrain because we wanted a lake view. It did not disappoint. The outside dining area had a great view since it is well elevated and they did a great job of using vinyl coverings to protect against the wind but keep the view. The service and the food was excellent! Update 8/11/17 if I could give six stars I would. Meal was absolutely delicious, fresh grouper topped with big shrimp! So good! Update 6/16/18 still an excellent place to eat! Tried the catfish bites appetizer, which were great. Grilled shrimp was delicious and the view was awesome as the sun was setting! Update 9/23/22 Rips never disappoints, the food is always delicious, the fish nugget appetizer is fantastic, service always great and of course the sunsets are amazing!
We met a few locals while staying at the local State Park. They suggested dinner at Rips, so we trusted their recommendation. The food was excellent, the service at the bar was on point and the atmosphere at the bar was exactly what we wanted. Great conversation with staff and other dinners. My husband ordered shrimp grits and it was to die for! It was so good that we went back the very next night and both ordered the shrimp grits again. I am still dreaming about that sauce!
This is my first time coming to this restaurant. The food was spectacular. I always get crab cakes, when available, at any restaurant that has them and that's how I judge the restaurant overall. The crab cakes were delicious, more crab than cake! I also had the softshell crab covered with crab meat and it was delicious, also. The wait staff also helped me what they surprised happy birthday dessert at the end. We had the Brownie and it was over the top scrumptious. And let's not forget what made our meal the best was our fantastic server named Billy. He had a fantastic off the Wall charm that really helped make our evening quite lovely.
