Maldon Pie And Mash

Visited this place for lunch on the way home from a shopping trip, the first thing we noticed were that the two ladies serving both had very untidy unkempt hair, none of them were wearing any sort of headwear to keep their hair off their faces, the welcome wasn't very warm either, the pies were slightly overdone but hot and the mash was just warm, the pies did not have a lot of flavour to them but there was a noticeable twang to them, possibly mixed herbs not quite sure, the meal was passable but doubt that we would eat there again, the hygiene issue needs to be addressed as we also noticed that the staff were also dragging big bags if potatoes around in between serving although they did put on a a pair of rubber gloves to do this but I doubt they washed their hands after taking the gloves off.

I visited this restaurant with my husband, my son, and my longtime best friend from school. It had been years since I had enjoyed pie and mash, and I was not disappointed at all.

I decided to give the pie and mash at this restaurant a try, but I have to say it was terrible! The mashed potatoes and gravy were both very watery and unappetizing.

I regret to say that this was the worst pie and mash I have ever tried. The portion of mashed potatoes was small compared to other places I have visited. As others have mentioned, the pie had a small amount of mince that was thick and heavily seasoned with something like oxo, giving it a slightly spicy flavor that is not typical of traditional pie and mash. The liquor was also too thick and resembled parsley sauce rather than the traditional liquor. It seems that whoever makes this dish does not follow the traditional East End style. In addition to the disappointing taste, the meal was quite expensive. We ordered two pies but had to order five servings of mash because one portion was equivalent to just over a tablespoon, along with two liquors. The total cost came to £15. I would not have minded paying that price if the food had been enjoyable, but unfortunately, it was not.

The pie mash was nice enough but we felt like we were eating in a library, the deadly silence was really off putting for us, a radio might be an idea
