Juan Raro - Madrid

We stopped here for dinner as it was around the corner from our hotel and was recommended by TripAdvisor. Looked to us like a low key bar/restaurant. I was skeptical that the food would be great, but I was wrong. We were immediately seated. The service was spot on, and the wait staff were excellent. I had the cured beef and cheese salad. The cheese was hot and melty and served on what tasted like a vanilla cookie? It was something I have never tasted before. Really good. My wife had stuffed pequillo peppers, which she loved. Second course was slow roasted pork shank over mashed potatoes. This was excellent. Reminded me of Thanksgiving dinner to be honest. We finished with desert of gin and tonic sorbet fir my wife and Spanish French toast with mandarin sorbet for me. Excellent. They gave us two free shots of Liqor de Madrono, which my wife said was delicious. Definitely recommend!

I was recently here and I loved it such that I returned with friends. The dishes are just lovely (attention you might get carried away and spend very easily 50€ on a lunch for two) the hosts are super nice and the dishes surprising!! Go for the eggs! Just lovely

We stopped in for an impromptu lunch with a group of 9. The staff set up a large table in the back of the restaurant. We really enjoyed the hummus and couscous, the steak, pork, and cod were also tasty. The spinach soup was also really good.

Extraordinario menú del día a un precio extraordinariamente modesto el que se disfruta en este restaurante de decoración intencionadamente informal y servicio amable, eficiente y raudo. La reducida posibilidad de elección de los platos del menú del día (dos primeros, dos segundos, dos postres) se compensa ampliamente con la delicadeza y el buen gusto con los que elaboran todas las viandas. Son capaces de cocinar con productos relativamente normales y añadir algún ingrediente que les otorga un matiz de feliz originalidad. No puedo opinar sobre las cenas o los almuerzos a la carta. La decoración pretende hacer referencia al nombre del restaurante; es uniforme en estilo, con pinturas figurativas estridentes pero de factura diestra. El ambiente es el esperable en un local de pequeñas dimensiones situado cerca de la Plaza de Lavapiés: excesivamente ruidoso y con clientela ligeramente hacinada. Desgraciadamente, en los tiempos que corren, sería milagroso, y por tanto inexplicable, que no hubiera demasiada gente hablando demasiado alto en un restaurante popular. Con todo y con eso, el paladar y el bolsillo del comensal son muy bien tratados en Juan Raro.

Me encanta el sitio, el trato y la comida. Es perfecto para pasar un rato la mar de agradable y sorprender a alguien que no lo conozca
