We turned back to this colourful café/restaurant that had caught our eye on the way down. Doudou greeted us warmly and suggested a meal for us as though we were visiting friends. This consisted of duck samosas, fish in a nantua style sauce and a huge gratin of potaoes and courgettes. He made a wonderful fluffy omelette for our vegetarian with cougettes à la grecque on the side. The olive oil was from a local producer friend. Dessert was home grown pears poached in spiced wine with vanila ice cream or chocolate mousse gateau. We dined on the terrace with its colourful parasols, the inside was a riot of colour with an eclectic collection of tropical seaside kitsch. The retaurant is aptly named as it does feel as though you are dining at the home of a friend.
What a great restaurant experience! DouDou is the biggest character we've ever met in a restauarant. As a family of four we went on a quiet night and had one of the best meals ever. DouDou brought each course and we helped ourselves so so fresh. Rough Terrine, local meat, fresh cheese flan, veal stew with corgette fritters, with a piece of every one of the sweets. And then DouDou joined us and through very broken french we had a great laugh. As already said not the best venue for a romantic meal for two but for a real corsican welcome and hilarious experience!
I was based in Calvi with my wife and we decided to skip restaurants for tourists. I found on internet that crazy restaurant. We spent a nice evening in a good environment with a kind owner, Pretty good food, basic service, but just one not negligible issue the price. Fixed menu no choice: starter, main course (chicken),deserts buffet, small beer and water 42€ each
The food was all home-made and delicious. The plat du jour was a splendid ravioli with beef, pork and asparagus, and a large bowl of this was put on our table for us to share. The dessert I had was a wonderfully light cake with a raspberry cream filling, whilst others had a lovely mint ice-cream. Doudou, the owner, chef and waiter managed to combine all these jobs and also bring clever repartee to his guests. Outside the restaurant has a pretty standard terrace, but the decor inside is reminiscent of a fantasy carribbean restaurant designed by a smart, but rather young, child.
