Asahi Japanese - Louisville

I was finally able to patronize Asahi after years of driving by it. We stopped by last Sunday evening around 6:30 PM. Fortunately it's wasn't too crowded and we were seated right away. It's a smaller restaurant but has a good amount of seating inside, including a sushi bar that maybe has six seats. It's a little confusing when you walk in, since you have to walk to the back of the restaurant for the hostess stand. Once we figured it out we were seated right away. They have a simple drinks menu, which includes sake, wine and beer. We settled on a bottle of sparkling wine! We ordered sushi rolls, appetizers to share and salads. Everything came out quickly. The ginger salad had one of the best dressings it's a typical ginger flavor but this dressing is so smooth and creamy. I would highly recommend the salad. We also ordered the shrimp suhumi and tuna takiki. I'm looking forward to going back to try more items on the menu!

Always fresh, always excellent. This is our go to spot for Sushi. Nothing particularly unique, just classic Japanese-American Sushi. Love them!

One of my favorite Japanese restaurants! The staff is always fast and helpful. The sushi is delicious. Some of the best ginger around. Idk how's they are different but this ginger has a little kick to it. The ginger dressing with the salad is remarkable. The shumai is excellent! The gyoza leaves a little to be desired. They are not very full with the stuffing. Highly recommend this cozy spot in Saint Matthews.

Excellent spot. I ordered the calamari roll and miso soup on a Saturday right as they opened and the experience was definitely worth it. The food was fantastic and the server was kind. I will make this a spot that I can bring my out of town guests to.
