Did you know Otosan means father in Japanese? Well, Otosan Sushi is a beautiful restaurant in Long Beach a collaboration between Jae Woo and her father, a 40 year restaurateur who owns eateries in Portland, Oregon.Otosan is Jae 's love letter to her father who she credits with teaching her everything about running a restaurant and, more importantly, how to connect with others through good food. The love really shines through their dishes, service, and presentation so much so that all of their delicious sauces, except for soy sauce and sriracha, are made fresh in house. We ordered their Hamachi, Gyoza, Miso Soup, Red Poppy Roll, Chicken Katsu, and Ribeye Gyudon DELICOUS! And I 'm not a saucy person, but their fresh ponzu and katsu sauce were AMAZINGG!Loved the ambiance too Will def be back for more!
The food here is hit or miss. The service is beyond exceptional and sufficient. The ambiance is so so, but I like the decor here. It's in a nice location with both indoor and outdoor seating. The restroom is fairly clean, I must say. The color scheme is really cool.
Visited again, we were the only people there on a Tuesday around noon for some reason, the food was pretty good and great service.
I ordered wrong. I'm confident if you're ordering fresh fish, you may not have complaints, however I'm not eating raw fish at this time and I was very disappointed. I got the seaweed salad which was overwhelmingly full of sesame seeds without a hint of vinegar and I found it unpleasant. The crispy rice was cold and a hard brick that I could barely bite into covered in a wet tasteless blob of crab. Mistake. I really think it was my fault for ordering crispy crab because plenty of crispy tuna was going out so I'm sure other people enjoyed. The umami rice was delicious.
