It was amazing lunch in St. John Smithfield. We ordered smocked eel as a starter to share, sweetbread and turbot as our main courses. Everything was delicious. And we enjoyed being in restaurant, very spacious, light and elegant but comfortable at the same time. Staff was very attentive and professional. Highly recommended
We had to try the famous roast bone marrow with parsley starter I don’t normally go for bone marrow as I’m not a fan of the texture but now I’m sold! I had the skate with bread (basically croutons) and monk’s beard as my main perfectly cooked. Absolutely had to order the welsh rarebit on the side, which was very rich indeed. I’m glad I ordered it though. I still think about those freshly baked madeleines every day. So good. The service was faultless too.
Proper good food from start to finish. We started with the venison and mackerel, our friends had the house classic bone marrow on toast. Then we shared the mega meat pie, hake, with sides of potatoes and greens, and Welsh rarebit. Phenomenal. Super friendly servers and a very non-fussy interior. Would highly recommend.
Great no-frills food. This restaurant cooks pretty straightforward cuisine exceptionally well. The service is great. The wines are fantastic. This isn't your Michelin starred tasting menus with ridiculously fancy flourishes on everything; just brilliant food ordered a la carte.
