Great dinner. the kindness of the staff is the strong point of the place. to try!
We have frequented this restaurant on multiple occasions and thoroughly enjoy the genuine Italian cuisine they serve. On previous visits, we have even encountered Italian friends dining there. The staff has always been exceptionally welcoming. However, during our most recent visit, the restaurant was bustling with customers. Although I had made a reservation through opentable, I was seated at a table near the entrance on a chilly evening. When I requested to be moved, I was informed that the best tables are reserved for patrons who book by phone and specify their preferred seating. It would have been helpful to be aware of this policy beforehand. While the staff remained courteous, they lacked the warm friendliness we had previously experienced.
Went to Giusi for Mother's Day as we wanted to stay local. Small and cosy restaurant, with a pleasant atmosphere. Service was friendly and efficient. Food, however, was mixed. Calamari starter was rubbery and, at nine pounds, not cheap. Spaghetti bolognese main was quite tasty, with good amount of meaty bolognese. Calves liver was rather tasteless and sinewy, with a large quantity of caramelised onions on top to provide the flavour. Mash was smooth though. Desert consisted of a pizza with nutella and strawberries, which was yummy. No wine or alcohol, so unable to comment on that. The bill came to seventy five pounds, which was what we'd have expected to pay in a much better restaurant. All in all, Giusi has all the ingredients of a lovely restaurant, but just falls short in quality, and very expensive for what it is. Think the pizza and pasta options are your best bet.
Super evening. Great food and service. Ingredients were fantastic. Pasta sublime!
