Looked boarded up to me on a Monday night (5/14/2018) was disappointed cuz my out of town friends wanted bar food and a decent drink before they went home and I had driven by this place a hundred times and finally decided to stop...ended up having a subpar dinner elsewhere (see previous review lol)
This is the best bar in town! I was born and raised in Lompoc, and when I go back The Whistle is an institution for casual drinks and playing pool. Forget the high school reunions or ghetto happenings at the other bars on lower H Street. If you just enjoy good people, stiff drinks and tater tots this is your haven. This is Lompoc 's 'Cheers ' All the bartenders are friendly Rocky and Cookie are simply the best! I cant say how much I really love this joint, definitely had some unforgettable nights there including meeting the wonderful man I am with today! BUT! If your looking for a meat market hook up, to shake your booty or someone to hit on you and reassure your insecurities PLEASE GO SOMEWHERE ELSE! Aint nobody got time for that, The Whistle is just for good people looking for a good drink.
Joanna must be a regular, I went here last night for the first time and encountered the worst customer service I 'd ever had in Lompoc. We came to meet up with a friend who said that she heard that they served really good food, when I asked for a menu, I was told that half the things weren 't being offered because she was the only person working. It made sense, we ordered what was being offered and were very kind and patient when waiting for our food. It was busy, so I didn 't expect my food to be fast, however, it seemed like she was honestly bothered by the fact that we ordered anything at all. I wish she would have said that there was no food available, at least then we could have gone elsewhere. It 's cash only, and we took turns buying rounds, however, since I was going to pay at the end of the night for my food, I wasn 't tipping her every time I went up for a round. When I came up to tally and pay my final bill, the lady said: You girls better learn how to tip. in an insolent tone. First of all, a tip is a gratuity, but one I was more than happy to give her, second of all, that 's a rude thing to say to a customer. I tipped her just the same, but I could see that she wasn 't very nice. I didn 't want to leave with a bad experience so I told her that I wasn 't planning on leaving without paying, which I wouldn 't have done, ever. Nor that I would leave without tipping, because I 'm a pretty nice person, she just brushed me off. It 's clear this lady doesn 't want any new business, too bad all her customers are a million years old and about to go to the retirement house. Food was okay, but not worth the hassle of being treated like that.
Best patty melt in town. The fries were limp. It's too bad because it made a good experience not so great. Great dive bar which I like so that was fine. Pictures on the walls of previous patrons who had passed away. Nice touch.
If you don't like this bar you're ridiculous. The people are awesome. The bartender is friendly. The karaoke is fun. The beer is cold. I hear the burgers are awesome.this is my first visit... I'll be back.
