Maru - Ljubljana

It was our first visit to a Japanese restaurant and we were impressed. We had a late reservation (20.30) they welcomed us with much positive energy. We were a bit early, so our table was not finished, so we sat at the bar and we got some prosecco (in the house). After we sat, a very nice waitress explained everything to us and helped us choose suitable dishes for us. The food was as amazing as the staff. We loved it and definitely come back.

It's probably the best Japanese experience in the city. The food is great. The service is just outstanding. Our waitress was very polite not pushy (for ex. she wouldn't just keep on explaining the stuff we didn't ask) she knew the right moment to step in and help, we didn't even have to ask what the stuff is because she sensed that we didn't really understood it and she explained. So yes 11 out of 10 for her. The atmosphere is Japanese like as how you would expect. Also the drinks selection is huge. Everything sums up then in to a great evening out with great food, atmosphere and service.

Visited in December 2022: Absolutely the best Japanese restaurant in all of Slovenia and probably Croatia. Dined twice during my short visit. Service and food is as good as before. Sashimi platter was so fresh and melt in your mouth. Having been to other places in Ljubljana, they are the best Japanese by a long shot. The waiters were excellent as well. 3 years ago: I went on Monday without reservations and there was only one table occupied at 8pm. I asked the waiter if there was a need for reservations and he said it is best to but usually on Mondays, business is slow but they appreciate a call even if its five minutes before. Had planned to come with my friend later this week and we couldn 't confirm until the day itself and had forgotten to make a reservation (Friday). It was raining heavily and we thought to try our luck but no avail. There was a sign that wrote Reservations only . So definitely call if its Friday or the weekend. It was disappointing as I was visiting and really wanted to go back a second time with my friend. That said, on Monday evening I ordered a large sashimi platter. There were 10 different types of fish including squid and octopus. All fresh and melt in your mouth. Really good price compared to other Japanese restaurant in the city. Shame about the reservations as the restaurant has only a few tables but weird they don 't serve on the bar counter.

Very nice place, quiet and chic, waiters do their best to make you feel as comfortable as it gets and the food is on another level really we enjoyed every moment of it. The only thing we might have missed is the music, which was nice jazzy but not traditional japanese.

The waitress was super friendly and helpful since we needed help with deciding which sushi to pick. Ambient was also nice, romantic. Prices are maybe a bit expensive and also you have to pay for parking.
