Menu was in Portuguese but easy to understand. Prices were reasonable and we were happy with what we got. We chose a soup followed by a big fish to share. Souped good value at just over a euro. Fish was very tasty and rather large, lots to fill you up. My only tip is to get wine rather than beer, two 400ml beers were eight euros, whereas you could get a bottle of wine for less. Would be happy to return if we needed cheap food in the area.
We sat down as there seemed to be a number of local people sitting chatting at the tables nearest the door. We had the traditional bread/ butter and cheese starters and I had a tuna salad while my husband had a chicken salad. Both were very good. We ordered two drinks each afterwards. The food is well priced but drinks are expensive..
This restaurant was the third one we went to in Lisbon and the only one that was willing to make a vegetarian dish that wasn't omelette! The portions were generous and the food tasty. There was wifi available and all the staff spoke English. Well worth a visit in Lisbon rather than the more obvious places.
We stumbled upon this little place while exploring the Belum area of Lisbon; and boy were we pleased with what we found! We started with the buttery cheese appetizer (yummy! . My husband had the baked cod fish dish and my sister/I had the pesto pasta dish. My husband was pleased with his lunch and my sister/I agreed that the pesto pasta was the best we ever had! The portion sizes were filling. The services is slow so be sure you go with a little extra time to spend. Also, we were not told that we 'd be charged for the bread and butter that was brought to the table; we didn 't ASK for it but later found the charges on our bill. We were brought a second basket of bread that we didn 't end up eating but we were charged for it also. Again, we never asked for the bread/butter (it was tasty though so just inquire about charges before accepting anything they bring to your table. Enjoy!
We got to this restaurant by mistake we were looking for one with a similar name (dos mares) that is close to this one, it's next to the carriage museum, on the to pastis de Belem. The restaurant is owned by David Paulino and his family, very nice and always willing to explain their different plates, the food is Portuguese, prices similar to other restaurants. average. My wife had fish I had beef both were very good. The restaurant is clean and comfortable specially after you have done so much walking and on that particular day it was hot the a/c was welcomed. The family was very engaging while we were there giving us tips, (specially that they were closing the street early because an expected protest in the area). Just like many things in Lisbon we enjoyed our meal and the people.
