We went shopping on a local market in the morning and then Patrick went through how to make a variety of Peruvian dishes with the fresh ingredients. My family often remembers the delicious fresh fruits and the fantastic ceviche we have (also an introduction to Pisco Sauer, which became a theme of the rest of the trip). It was a nice introduction to Peruvian culture through food, and Patrick was the perfect host. Very recommended.
We visit Urban Kitchen as part of a tour group. Ignacio had first brought us to the local markets to buy fruit etc. for our meal, and then he led us through the cooking of Lomo Saltado, which was one of the dishes for our lunch. Ignacio is a very personable person who felt very welcome in his teaching kitchen and again in his restaurant. We had a pleasant lunch where we taste various traditional Peruvian dishes that we enjoyed very much.
Our group was taken on a market tour with Ignacio and then back to the restaurant for lunch. Ignacio demonstrated making quinoa salad, and then we sat down to a delicious lunch -- the Quinoa salad, Aji de Gallina (chicken with yellow chili sauce, rice, quail eggs, and olives), Lomo Saltado (beef tenderloin with roasted tomatoes), and mixed Peruvian fruit compote for dessert. Ignacio is very friendly and an excellent chef. They cater to team building for businesses and cooking classes. Try to go; it's a great experience.
I took a visit which included the market in San Isidro Lima and also a visit to the Urban Kitchen premises in Magdalena, Lima. I was really impressed by the tour given by Ignacio, the founder, he is really passionate about his country's food and the amazing range of produce at the market. One of the best things about this experience is that you will learn a great deal about not just cooking but the cultural influences on Peruvian foods and how they have become so popular on a global stage. This is a tour with a difference as it's neither a restaurant or just a market visit, it's a lot more. It's equally popular with locals as travelers and so it's an authentic experience.Go and do it!
I've there recently with my team and it was an excellent activity to integrate the team and show how much each one is important for the final product. Besides that, the experience was great and so was the food.
